Alice Noverr Obituary

Former Alaska resident Alice Mary "Amie" Porter Noverr, 69, died Jan. 26, 2010, at Valley Medical Center in Kent, Wash.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday.

She was born March 21, 1940, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Walter Stanley and Sarah Susan Armstrong Porter.

She graduated from St. Phillips High School in Battle Creek. She received her registered nursing license from St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.

She married William C. Noverr on Nov. 17, 1962. He died Nov. 30, 1999.

Amie enjoyed her family, especially her grandkids, and crafts and faith. Amie was very active in her prayer group in Alaska, where she resided for 26 years prior to her stroke in December 2001. After that, she moved to Waterloo to be with family. In August 2009, Amie moved to Kent to be near her newest grandchild, Allison, the most recent joy in her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Peter) Chin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sons, Joseph (Karina) Noverr of Kent, William Noverr of Loveland, Colo., and Andrew Noverr of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three grandchildren, Camille and Liam Chin and Allison Noverr; two brothers, Michael (Lynette) Porter of Virginia Beach, Va., and Patrick Porter of Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Louise (Ron) Youngblut of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Teresa (Brian) Corcoran of Fairbank, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom she shared her laughter and life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sarah Bridget Porter; a brother, William Porter Jr.; and three sisters-in-law.

Memorials may be made to Priests for Life, Eternal Word Television Network; or to Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Arrangements are with Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service in Waterloo; online condolences may be made at www.hagarty-waychoff-grarup.com.

We would like to express our condolences to the Noverr family. We have many good memories of sitting in the stands with Amie and Bill cheering the kids on, and visiting with them after Mass on Sunday. Amie and Bill made life in Alaska a little warmer.
