Alissa Grohall Obituary

Alissa Grohall (Herrman), 46, passed away on Jan. 16, 2016, at Alaska Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Alissa was born on July 21, 1969, in Oswego, N.Y. Alissa spent most of her life in Alaska, moving in 1971, at the young age of 2. Alissa worked as an event coordinator for the Alaska Federation of Natives for more than 20 years. She also worked special events for Bristol Bay Native Corporation and First Alaskans Institute. Alissa enjoyed many hobbies including beading, camping, gardening and berry picking. She loved long car rides, thrift shopping, watching scary movies, garage sale-ing and planning family events. She had a deep passion for fighting for Alaska Native rights. She was always willing to open her home to anybody in need. Her family writes: please remember her as the outgoing person she was, with her contagious laugh and smile. We wish to thank all those who took care of her medical needs. Alissa is survived by her husband, Jason; sons, Vincen and Reece; daughter, Alaina; grandson, Lorenzo; her parents, Nena and Jim Larsen; her father, Bruce Herrman; sister, Michelle Fletcher; niece, Shawni; nephews, Keith, Geoff, Alex, Josh and Aaron; great-niece, Felicity; her beloved dog, Chewie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Alissa is preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Herrman Jr.; and her sister, Blenda Stroud. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Beach Lake Chalet, 17300 South Birchwood Loop in Chugiak, Alaska, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Alissa's passing. As everyone has already stated and known, she was delightful person to work with at AFN. May the Creator of all living things continue to do for her family and friends what they are unable to do for themselves now that she has crossed over to the other side.
