Ann Jenkins Obituary

Ann Gillette Jenkins

Chesapeake - Ann Gillette Jenkins passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Virginia Beach after an extended illness. She was born February 20, 1935 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Fenton and Josephine Thompson Gillette.

She is survived by her former husband Walter along with three sons and their spouses, Walter III and Lynn, Steven and Barbara, and Michael and Cagri. She was loved by six grandsons, Christopher and wife Crystal, Walter Earl IV and Wendy, David and wife Becky, Julian, Matthew, and Phillip. She adored her ten great grandchildren, Christopher, Heather, James, Daniel, Elizabeth, Kaylyn, Joshua, Nicholas, David, and Holly and one great-great grandchild, Takyiah.

Much of her childhood was spent in Norfolk and as an adult she enjoyed many years in Suffolk. She loved the beach at Ocean View and vacationing on Gwynn's Island. In 1989 Ann moved to Kansas City where she served the Lord as a missionary with Stonecroft Ministries. There she found true happiness, made many wonderful friends, and traveled extensively throughout the country. She attended Suffolk Presbyterian and Colonial Presbyterian in Kansas City; most recently she was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She was also active in the Suffolk Christian Women's Club and the Suffolk Chapter of the Eastern Star. Since the 1950s, she regularly played cards with several special friends in Suffolk.

A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Keith Curran on Saturday, September 13 at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1885 Bridge Road, Suffolk, Virginia. A reception will be held following the service at the Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Steve and Barbara Jenkins.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
