Charles Maxson Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Maxson of Anchorage died Sept. 29, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. He was 84.

A family celebration of life will be held at a date yet to be determined.

Mr. Maxson was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to William and Julia Malinak Maxson. He attended grade school in Hot Springs and Missoula, Mont., and graduated from Taft High School on the Oregon coast in 1943.

He graduated from Oregon State College in Corvallis in 1950, after having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a naval air cadet and gunner's mate aboard the USS Barnett (APA-5) in the Pacific. At OSC, Mr. Maxson was the all-school heavyweight boxing champion and also the AAU and Golden Glove champion of Oregon in 1948 and 1949.

In 1967, after a banking career in Oregon, Mr. Maxson moved to Anchorage to begin his career with the U.S. Small Business Administration. He retired in 1993.

Mr. Maxson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley of Anchorage; his daughter, Charlene Lee (Larry); sons, William and Brent (Elena); stepchildren, Steve (Kris), Bob (Cheryl), Diana (Michael) and Rick (Martha) Armbrust; grandchildren, Kyle, Leann, Robert, Sarah and Hannah; and great-grandchild, Alexis.
