Bishop Charles D. Williams born in Ennis, Texas, growing up in Dallas, Texas, came to Alaska, in 1952, where his ministerial journey began. He became known for his hospitality, taking in the homeless, feeding the hungry and most of all, committing himself to the healing of the whole person. Bishop Williams inducted into the Armed forces in 1942, became known as an initiator, preacher and an officer until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Young Charles Williams accepted the call to the ministry in 1949 in Stockton, Calif. In 1953, Minister Williams was ordained to the office of Elder by the late Bishop L. E. Tolliver. In 1967, God elevated him to the office of Bishop for the Church of God in Christ in the State of Alaska. He founded the Friendly Church of God in Christ. Thank you, Bishop Williams, for the love and support you showed me and my wife, Mary Lou, during our stay in Anchorage 1976 -1978. The power of your preaching and prayer pulled me through many a trial and tribulation. It was an honor to be your deacon. You were as a father to me.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Thank you Bishop Williams for always being Steadfast and Unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord without fail you held on till the very end!

Well Done thy Good and Faithful Servant!

Bishop thank you for all of your love, kindness and support you exemplify what a "true man of God " really is. We loved you like a father as so many others you adopted as your sons and daughters. You will be greatly missed but your legacy will always live on in the hearts and lives of the people you touched. It was an honor and a privilege to serve you as your Secretary and Pastor Aide. I will always remember you saying " Can't nobody block you and can't no body stop you " from living for God it's your choice!

To the Williams Family,
Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you that God will grant peace and comfort during this time. We love you! As members of Center of Hope COGIC (1984-87) we came to know the power placed in Bishop Williams by God. No Greater Love than this that a man would lay down his life. Bishop gave his life to us for God. He is and will always be remembered as a great warrior for God's Kingdom.
