It is very difficult to find the exact words to share with Dan's family and friends at this time. I had the honor of attending church with Dan one afternoon on the Big Island after he so kindly picked me up at the airport. We went as guests to Solid Rock Ministries in Kona. I remember feeling especially relaxed with Dan in the Lord's mighty pressence that day. I truly appreciate and cherish all the spiritual wisdom this fine man of God shared with me in the short time I grew to know him. It is my hope that Dan's legacy will live on through his sons.

Dan, I praise the Lord that you are in the place we can only dream of. Matt and I will miss you. The boys (Tyler and Trey) are young but rest assured that they know who you are and have memories of you.

I hope we can all take the suddenness of this tragedy to heart and live every day as if we were dying. Tell your family you love them before you run to the grocery store. Treat your loved ones in kindness and love even when it is hard. It may be the last time to see them.

Dan Jr., Wade and Micah, our prayers are with you. Matt and I are here for whatever and whenever you need us.

I counted Dan as one of my very good friends and, although comforted by the knowledge that he's with God, nonetheless, I was deeply saddened and shocked by the news of his death.

Quite the salesman, the things I bought from him will remind me of him for a long time. I own several article of clothing, quality clothing, that I purchased from him. I also drive his old vehicle that he sold to me a few years ago.

I join my prayers and sentiments with those of his many friends on behalf of his family who loved him and will miss him very, very much.

Goodby Dan, or, as they say in Spanish, "Adios" ...literally translated - "To God."

Dan we will miss you. Now you are with the family that has gone before you, Dub, Lila, and Nelson! Knowing you are with the Lord is comforting. Doesn't make the pain of loss go away though. I look forward to times shared with the family left behind, sharing good stories about Dan's life! Funny ones too! Our prayers are with Dan Jr. Micah and Wade. Love you much! Kari

Just found out out today that my dear friend Dan Huckabay went to be with the Lord. I'm shocked and saddened yet very happy to know that Dan was in one his favorite places when his call home came, in a church service. I will always be grateful to Dan & Jamie for the blessing they were to me when I first arrived in AK back in 1978. I attended his home fellowship and pretty much met his entire family at one time or another. I counted Dan, Nelson and Randy as my friends. Dan's mom was a wonderful lady as well. I've not seen Dan jr since he was a teen and have not seen Micah or Wade since they were children. I moved from AK late in 1989. I offer my deepest condolences to his remaining family, in particular to Randy and Dan Jr., Micah and Wade. Dan was a good man, a committed christian soldier and a faithful friend. Most of all Dan impressed me with his personal tenacity and ability to endure all sorts of hardships. My friend was not a quitter. He ran his race and crossed the finish line.

Last January, after meeting Dan for the first time, he truly inspired and encouraged me. I could tell he was a man of God. I will look forward to seeing him in Heaven. Barbara adds Dan was a very good Christian man and he lived Galatians 2:20.

I attended Dan Huckabay's funeral today in support of my friend that lost his father, as I have done in support of friends in the past. Today was the first time I left truly feeling like I missed out by never meeting someone. It was clear to me this man was beyond wonderful. The positive, tangible impact he had on so many lives is hard to believe. Just being able to attend his funeral and listen as people shared their memories was an honor. I have been inspired to live and love more - and reminded what is important.

I know there is no real comfort to be had when a person you cherish dies, but I do hope his family and friends can have some relief knowing that while he was here, he not only lived his life to the fullest, but helped others to find happiness and peace in their own lives as well.

I have known Dan since the 70's when we were friends at church and I went to high school with Jamie. Even after we didn't hang out together anymore, we ran into each other many times over the years. Most recently just last week, we exchanged a big hug, talked about our kids, life, work, and how good God is no matter how bad everything else can seem. We made plans to get together this week.

He was always kind, encouraging and helpful. Wonderful qualities to share with the world. Good things about him to emulate.

The first time I met Dan was in late 1988. I was impressed with the time, effort and energy he exerted, ministering to the poor, the crippled and the invalids. He would bring them to church in their wheelchairs, he would feed the hungry, and give his time to those in need. I was to have a luncheon meeting with him in the near future but un-fortunately, that opportunity has been forever past.
