Dana Morrison

Dana J. Morrison, 60, passed away on October 5th, 2012 at U.C. Davis Hospital in Sacramento, CA. Dana lived in Anchorage, AK for 47 years, in 2009 moved to Elk Grove, CA.

Dana was born on December 2, 1951 in New Albany, Indiana to Eugene and Dana M. Morrison. He graduated from New Albany High School and excelled in music, playing trumpet in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Upon moving to Atlanta, GA, he continued to play professionally, trading in his trumpet for the flute. In 1972 he drove to Alaska with a friend and settled in Anchorage, where he played his flute at local venues such as Chilkoot Charlie's, Flight Deck and Elevation 92.

Dana worked closely with adults and teens, from ARCA to API, and finally as a Youth Counselor at McLaughlin Youth Center, retiring after 27 years.

Dana had a love for sports, playing baseball in his youth and basketball and softball in his adult years. He was a loyal fan of car racing, both as a spectator of NASCAR and driver. Dana competed in Autocross, ice racing at Big Lake, circle track in Wasilla and Grand Prix races during Fur Rondy. Upon moving to California, Dana used the family car, a Chrysler 300 for Autocross racing.

Dana was a kind and generous man who truly enjoyed people and made lasting friendships wherever he went. He especially adored his 2 granddaughters who were his "shining stars". Among his favorite places was Seward, AK where he would RV on the beach and fish in the bay with his son-in-law and friends, old and new.

He is sadly missed by his wife of 29 years, Mary. He will be remembered for his warm and enduring love of his family and close friends. He leaves behind his step children Robert Barrett (Gayle), Andrea Jingco (Manolo); granddaughters Marisa and Breanna Jingco; sister Allie Margaret Swan (Larry) and children Kim, Becky, and Lawrence, and brother Bob Morrison (Peggy) and daughter Katie and their families.
