George Gardner Obituary

Lifetime Alaskan George Gardner, age 49, died August 1, 2012 at Providence Hospital due to complications from cancer-related surgery. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in January 2012.

A public celebration of life will be held on August 18 at the Big M Memorial in Wasilla at the Mug-Shot Saloon from 11- 9. The family is continuing to raise money to help pay medical bills. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the "Big M" Memorial, or deposited into Wells Fargo account number 3754991937.

George was born to Leonard "Tiny" Gardner and Annette Gardner on April 13, 1963 in Anchorage Alaska. George was married to Mona in May of 1984 and they quickly turned their family of two into a family of six.

In 1994 when his dad, "Tiny," died, George and his siblings took over the family business and worked hard to continue the success their father had started. George was a hard worker and rarely called in sick, even when he was going through Chemo.

In 2007 George became a grandfather to a beautiful baby girl, Taylor. He loved her with everything that he was and his face would light up when she came into the room. He was her "Super Papa" and she will always be his "Super Taylor".

His friends and family will always remember what a kind and generous man he was. He was always there for his loved ones with words of advice, encouragement, and a sense of humor when needed. He had a quick smile and a witty personality, could make you laugh even when you wanted to cry, and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

We are raising money for George to pay for medical bills. The third annual Big M Benefit is scheduled for August 18th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and we would love more donations and auction items. And still have raffle tickets for sale.

George is survived by his beautiful wife Mona; his children Amber, Stephanie and Jon Smith, Samantha, Calvin, Danny Caswell; his brothers James, Sam, Robert, Ben, and sister Margie, and of course his granddaughter Taylor and many loving nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Leonard and his mother Annette.

It was a very sad time when Bob told me about George. The friendship that started in elementary school with the brothers continues today. George is gone from your side but will always be in your hearts. God Bless You All.

There are just no words adequate enough to convey our sorrow over George's passing. Having done business with the "Gardner boys" for almost 30 years, we know so well the kind and honest man that George was and how much he loved and was devoted to his family. We share your loss and extend our deepest sympathy. May you each be comforted by your own special memories and hold tight to them and to each other in the days ahead.
