Jay Hite Obituary

Former Anchorage resident Jay J. Hite, 48, of Sammamish, Wash., died Jan. 20, 2010. A service was held Monday at Pickering Barn in Issaquah, Wash.

Jay was born March 13, 1961, in St. Paul, Minn., to Edward and Pauline Hite. He was raised in Anchorage and graduated from East High School in 1979.

He received his bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, and a master's in business administration from Gonzaga University. Jay was a financial broker who advised numerous financial institutions. He was recently employed by Wells Fargo Advisors.

Jay married Elizabeth Mallen on July 26, 1986, in Anchorage. They moved to Washington in March of 1989 and made their home in Sammamish in 1997.

Jay's many hobbies and interests included fishing on the Kenai River, bike riding, pie- and jelly-making, smoking salmon, canning, gardening, watching and playing hockey and listening to a variety of music including oldies rock guitar stylings.

More than 500 friends, family members and co-workers attended the celebration of life for Jay. He touched many lives throughout the years. Officiated by lifelong friend Paul Wunnicke, the service captured his love for his family and especially his love of fishing on the Kenai River through photos, music and shared stories. Family as far away as Brazil and Canada came to the service, as well as family from Minnesota and many childhood friends from Anchorage.

Jay is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hite; and their children, Alexandra, Jacqueline and Michael, all of Sammamish; his mother, Pauline Hite of Sterling and Tucson, Ariz.; brother, David Hite of Anchorage; sister, Laurie and Matthew Fagnani and their children, Madison and Thomas of Anchorage; and sister, Julie and George Buck and their children George IV, James and Nicholas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

Jay was preceded in death by his father, Edward Hite, on Nov. 15, 2004.

My condolences to all the Hite family. I heard about Jay's passing from Aldo Bravo who just happened to be visiting from Fairbanks and picked up the paper and found out the news there. I remember him as a great guy and know that this is a difficult time for friends and family. He will be missed.

I just today received the news of Jay's death. I am totally shocked. My husband and I had been clients of Jay's since the late 1980s. I only met him on the phone but he was always so professional and did a good job of managing our funds. He will be missed.

My condolences to Jay's family. He was our financial advisor for many years and we trusted his advice 100%. I'll miss having our periodic conversations, during which we tried to solve the world's problems. He was a real mensch!

Buzzy,
I am sorry for your loss. And sadden that I never met Jay or your kids. It is times like these that make me realize that life is too short, and family is so important. I hope to reconnect with you and one day meet the rest of your family and you can meet mine. I am thinking about you.

My condolences are with Jay's family. I hadn't communicated with Jay in decades but we were friends in high school, he was a dear person indeed. I was alarmed and saddened to hear of his passing.
