JoAnn Strickland Obituary

JoAnn Strickland, of Anchorage, Alaska, died on August 30, 2012 at her son's home. Graveside service with be at Angelus Memorial Park at 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 6th, 4 p.m. at Chapel by the Sea, 14730 Turnagain Bluff Way, Anchorage, AK. JoAnn's family requests wearing blue, her favorite color.

JoAnn was born August 24, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated high school while living in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1956. She lived in Fort Worth Texas from 1965 until 1975 where she made many lifelong friends. She moved to Anchorage in July 1975. JoAnn worked as a cook at Humana Hospital from 1975 until 1979. She moved to Valdez, Alaska and worked for the State of Alaska, Valdez Community Hospital from 1979 until she retired in 1993. She moved back to Anchorage in 1993 and worked for the Anchorage School District Student Nutrition, at Dimond High School for several years.

JoAnn loved to cook for her family, dance, visit with family and friends, and listen to her favorite musicians Elvis and Johnny Mathis. She was tender hearted to those in need, a loyal friend, and poured her life into her family.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter Debbie and husband Wade George; son Derek and wife Cyndy Strickland; brother Billy Proctor; brother David and wife Pacita Proctor; brother Jerry Bates; grandson Nicholas and wife Kristin George; grandson Derek (DJ) and wife Brittany Strickland; grandson Justin George; granddaughter SaraBeth Strickland; great-grandsons Aaron Thompson and Logan George; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother Louise Bates; father Morgan Proctor; brother Sonny Proctor, and her much loved dog Fancy.

Arrangements are with Legacy Funeral Home.
