John Geerin Obituary

John David Geerin died in his sleep on Feb 5, 2012. He was 47. John was born in Ft Leavenworth, Kansas, on July 27, 1964, to Raymond and Josephine Geerin.

A celebration of John's life will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 9th., at Anchorage Grace Church, 12407 Pintail Street. A reception to follow the service at the church.

John lived in Alaska for most of his life, arriving in March 1966 when the Army transferred his father to Ft Richardson. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1982. John was an electrician by trade and worked on residential and commercial projects throughout the state. His passion in life was spending time with his sons, Jimmy and Trevor, with whom he found great joy fishing on the Kenai and Anchor Rivers every summer. When not fishing, he spent countless hours with his sons in the hockey rink, coaching them in their early years with the Alaska All Stars, and attending their comp and high school varsity hockey games. His boys were the highlight of his life and he never missed an opportunity to talk about their accomplishments and how proud he was of them.

His family said, "John was such a fun loving family man. He was always ready with a hardy laugh at any funny story that was shared. John was great will kids of all ages, as his playful nature was infectious to all. Our fondest memories are of sharing times with John on the Kenai River. We will miss his free spirit and zest for life. John will forever be close in our hearts".

John is survived by his sons Jimmy and Trevor Geerin, his girlfriend Kirsten Anderson, his sisters and their husbands Mary and Rusty Hathaway and Theresa and George Rockhill, sister Sharon Hackleman, the mother of his beautiful sons Cathi Geerin, nieces Jessica and Jennifer Rockhill, Cherie Ard and Rachael Watkins, nephew Justin Rockhill, grandniece Trinity Ard, and grandnephew Asher Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Raymond (Mike) Geerin.

Arrangements were cared for by Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel.

We were John's neighbors on Patterson in the 60s & 70s. John and his parents taught my family how to fish the Kenai and Anchor rivers back then. When I drive the Seward Highway I still see "JohnJohn's cave" between Anchorage and Bird Creek. John's life had meaning and impact all those years ago. Ken McCormick for the McCormick Family

The Wonderful John Geerin will be missed by all that knew him. A very loving father who taught his sons well. Quite possibly the best fisherman in Alaska. A master electrician who could fix everything. A superb cook. Always a smile and kind word. The list could go on and on. To me, a loyal and generous friend, always fair. I will miss you John, and always keep you in my heart.

Jimmy,Trevor and family I just wanted to send my condolences, your dad was a very proud parent when he watched you play hockey and always smiling at the rink...as a parent, I love when parents like your dad took pride in how proud he was when he'd watch you play on the ice. I admire parents like that. I just wanted to say my thoughts and prayers are with the both of you and your family. Marilyn (security).

I will always remember the years when you coached me, Jimmy, and all the boys through the early parts of our hockey careers. There was a reason all the guys from that team still remain very close friends. I can speak for everyone when saying you made hockey fun for all of us and will never forget those times. Even as we grew up you remained so close to all of us and always had us over with open arms and were there for us. You leave an amazing legacy that will be carried on by Jim and Trev. The Burgundy Brews will never forget you. Miss you JG. You'll never be forgotten. Your face-off play lives on. Here's to you, Cheers

Always smiling, you were....and so so fun to be near. We will miss you, John. We have so many great memories of you coaching that very special group of boys. We will never forget that time, for it was you who dubbed our William "Will the Thrill". He loved you so....You caused him to fall in love with hockey. You will remain in our hearts, and your family in our prayers.
