Jack will be laid to rest in the spring at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jack was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1942. He was raised there along with three other siblings by his mother and stepfather. Jack graduated from South Vocational High School and relocated to Alaska in 1962 with the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Richardson and was honorably discharged in 1964.

Jack then began work at the Anchorage Telephone Utility where he moved through the ranks from an entry level apprentice to the Central Office Installation Foreman supervising over 20 employees during his 18 year career. He was also a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547. Jack was one of the founding members of the Anchorage Bucs baseball team.

He received numerous community awards and recognitions over the years. In 1995, he was honored as Hope Cottages "Employer of the Year" and received the respectable Melvin Jones Fellow award in 1997 from the Lions Club International Foundation. In 2008, he personally donated $25,000.00 and initiated the efforts to invoke the community to raise funds needed to help revive the financially devastated Anchorage Fur Rendezvous. This proved to be a victorious campaign and a turning point for this renowned organization.

Jack owned and operated Tudor Road Bingo Center, Lottery Alaska, Tudor Charity Tabs (2 locations), and The Silver Derby Campground and RV Park in Lowell Point (Seward), Alaska employing over 55 Alaskans. Through his charitable gaming efforts, he has raised over 20 million dollars for Alaskan charities throughout the state.

Jack was known as a "super voter". He recognized his responsibility to vote and has cast his votes in every election held. Over the years, he has volunteered and supported numerous candidates and their campaigns such as: Bill Egan for Governor; Bill Sheffield for Governor; Tony Knowles for Governor; Frank Murkowski for United States Senate; Mark Begich for Mayor and United States Senate; Bill Stoltze for State House; Johnnie Ellis for State Senate; Tom Fink for Governor and Mayor; Rick Mystrom for Mayor; Ernie Hall for Assembly; and Dan Sullivan for Mayor.

Jack enjoyed listening to good ole' rock and roll and jazz music. He was known back in the day for his crowd pleasing jitterbug performances. He was an entrepreneur and inventor and especially enjoyed bingo and politics.

Jack is survived by his stepfather Johnny Joyce of Pittsburgh, sons Mark Powers of Anchorage and Adam Powers of California; daughters-in-law Jeri Powers of Anchorage and Tina Pintakume of California; brothers John K. Our deepest condolences to the family. We met "Uncle Jack" "Aunt Dolly" and Mark when they were on Northern Lights. My daughter Augustina was just a baby. Both my daughters Agatha and Augustina called him "Uncle Jack". They were such a great family. We will definitely miss him when we come up to AK to visit.

Jack was my journeyman in the late 70s when a female apprentice wasn't very popular. He was so good to me, smart and so funny. Always had something up his sleeve! RIP my friend

I did not know Jack personally but I am friends with his step-father John down here in Pittsburgh. John always spoke highly of Jack. John and I shared many stories about Alaska - John going up to visit Jack and my Army tour of duty there...including stops on Tudor Road! I am sorry for the loss you all must feel and also glad that he is free of pain and soaring with the eagles over Alaska. Even though I never had the pleasure, I almost feel as if I did. Alaska and Alaskans can do that to you. RIP Good Sir.

Jack was actually an inspiring individual and I enjoyed getting to know him post our face-off as candidates in the Democratic Primary for Lt. Governor. Although due to his illness we never got to do that public outing we talked about. Running against one another was a heck of a way to meet, but I am glad I got to know him. We had some wonderful phone conversations together after it was all over. I appreciated his sense of humor; his generosity to others; and his overall character. He will be missed.

Jack was indeed a generous active and pleasant man . Hard working
and a great competitor. He was interested in Alaska and loved being
the "MAN:" when it came to helping several charities.

A worthy soul who now will probably organize Heavens first Bingo Game.

Jack was a dear friend of our family for a long time. My mom was in real estate and worked with him in helping to start the BUCs baseball teal. He was a nice man who did nice things and always seemed to be kind and friendly to everyone. We need more people like him!
Rest in peace, Jack.

Jack Powers brought bingo to a higher level in Anchorage over the years and was a very good competitor which has changed the way the other bingo halls here had to change to ever meet Tudor Rd Bingo standards. He will be missed.

I want to offer my deepest sympathy to the family of Jack. I met Jack in the late 1990's thru my sister. Jack was a happy-go-lucky kind a guy and I will missed his jokes and smile. I enjoyed the times we get to spend with Jack, i.e., driving to Whitehorse, camping in Seward and watching baseball games. I will always treasure a scenic photograph he purchased for me and my late husband from the Alaska State Fair. Thank you Jack for great memories! Rest In Peace.
