Elaine and family: I have fond memories of John coming to Kotzebue. He always had a big smile for us. Memories of stories told to me by my father, Leon Shellabarger, which included clamming at Polly Creek, will be amongst the stories I tell my nephews and nieces. I hope your own memories will comfort you at this time.

Although I only met John about two years ago, and only got to talk to him the one time, I could tell he was a true Alaskan, and after reading his book confirmed his "Alaskan sprit" through his stories and adventures....God bless.

Elaine and Family,
Not easy to accept the news of Johnny Swiss. We Thompson children looked forward to his arrival into town every Polar Bear hunting season while growing up. He always picked on each of us of kids, made each of us feel so special. His memory will lives in each of us.
May the Lord give you all strength at this time of loss.

A true pioneering Alaskan and one to admire. HIS INFLUENCE and SPIRIT CARRIES ON.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

My condolences to the Swiss family. John was a good friend to my dad, and our family is glad to have friends like the Swisses. They are true Alaskans. As Dad, also a pilot, said, John's gone through the pass. May he have CAVU on the other side.
