1984 - 2017

Joseph Patrick Hanson, 32, passed away suddenly at his home in Anchorage on January 2, 2017 A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Changepoint Church, 6689 Changepoint Drive, Anchorage, AK 99518 with Dr. Dan Jarrell officiating.

Joe was born March 21, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska to Gerald and Brenda (DeGrote) Hanson. He attended Grace Christian School and Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. He attended Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes the summers of 1991 and 1992. Joe loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He had great memories of time with family at Minnesota and South Dakota lakes. He loved spending time with his youth group at Victory Bible Camp in Sutton, AK. He was employed as a sous chef at Providence Alaska Medical Center since December 2011. He married Katherine (Smith) Hanson on August 17, 2013. His hobbies included sketching, art, camping, playing pool, and playing with his dog, Tuxie.



His family says, "Joe was a wonderful, compassionate, caring person. He deeply loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Joe's tender heart impacted those who knew him. He always looked for ways to extend care to those in the margins whether through acts of kindness, laughter or simply by listening. Joe was a loyal friend with a mischievous sense of humor. Food and cooking were his passion and we've been told he made work fun for his co-workers. We love you, Joe, and you will always be in our hearts. We all know you and Kerri are having a grand time in Heaven!!!"

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, two uncles, one aunt, and one cousin. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Hanson of Anchorage; parents, Gerald and Brenda Hanson of Anchorage; brother and sister in law, Jeremy and Alyssa Hanson and their children, Jonas Hanson, Gabriel Hanson, Audrey Hanson and Elijah Hanson, all of Wasilla, AK; brother and sister in law, Brian Hanson and Michelle Sposato and their children, Macie Hanson and Kayden Hanson, all of Anchorage; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and co-workers. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska.
