Kaye Clarke Obituary

Former resident, Kaye (Newell) Clarke, 95, died peacefully at her home in Renton, Wash., June 2, 2010.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chateau at Valley Center, 4450 Davis Ave. S., in Renton, Wash.

Born Nov. 16, 1914, in Vashon, Wash., she was one of three children. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Anchorage and in the Seattle area. For more than 30 years, she taught a special form of Japanese embroidery called Bunka, and her art work hangs in private collections, museums, restaurants, businesses and government buildings in Alaska and Washington State. Kaye enjoyed cooking and entertaining, but her main focus and love was for her family. She also had a passion for anything involving numbers and totally enjoyed Bridge with her special friends until her vision loss made that too difficult. Her quick humor and ready smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Kaye was preceded in death by her husbands, T. Glenn Newell in 1985, and Ward Clarke in 2006; as well as her brother, A. Jack Petersen in 2009.

She is survived by her brother George W. Petersen, and wife Joan; son Thomas G. Newell Jr., and wife Cheryl; and daughter Stephany Watson, and husband Wilbur; grandchildren, Thomas Newell III and wife Stephanie, Carma Hansel and husband Jim, Joseph Newell and wife Debbie, Andrew Newell and Jill Dedrick; as well as eight great-grandchildren and many other extended family members.
