Pat, Paula and I were sad to hear of Leonard's passing. If you don't remember, I was the person who married you two at the Petroleum Club in Anchorage, quite a few years ago.
Our prayers are with you during this time.

Leonard Gross, 86, died November 8, 2016 in Melbourne, Florida. Leonard was born in Philadelphia in 1930 to Eva (Shapiro) and Solomon Gross. Leonard and his brother Merwin "Mechel" shared many adventures in Strawberry Mansion where they lived near their maternal grandparents, Anna and Morris Shapiro. After attending the local yeshiva and graduating from Overbrook High School in 1948, Leonard tried his hand working in the oil fields of Texas. By 1950 he joined the Air Force and found himself stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, WA. An off base excursion at Liberty Lake lead to a chance encounter with Barbara Doering. They married in 1951. Their daughters, Deborah and Sandra were born while Leonard attended Washington State College. Leonard earned a degree in accounting and sought a job working as a Bankruptcy Court Receiver. Harriet and David were born after the family moved to Seattle. Leonard took a position as the General Manager for a Seattle to Alaska shipping company, Pacific Western Lines. A few years later, he started a shipping business with Joe Hagan. The two partners eventually chose different routes and separated the company. Leonard's new venture, Coastal Barge Lines, focused on shipping to Alaska. He stayed active in that community until the 1990's with a variety of related businesses, including land development. Leonard was most comfortable when dealing with numbers. Playing cards and pool with the family were favorite pastimes. He enjoyed being at the helm of his boat, The Northern Lights. After a divorce in 1992, Leonard married Patricia. They eventually moved to Florida where he continued developing properties.
Leonard joined a number of organizations over the years. He became a Moose, a Mason, and in one memorable Father-Daughter skit, a Campfire girl complete with wig, skirt, and ankle socks. He followed this theatrical performance with a brief appearance on the Don Ho stage in Honolulu. Much laughter ensued and family pictures are treasured. Lesson learned: always wear your nice underwear.
Leonard is survived by his children, grandchildren -Josh and Carl Lodge, Stefanie Gidmark and Travis Hyde, and Charles Sullivan and great-grandchildren Catherine and Bennett. He is remembered by Tiffany Phillips and Matt Bridges. Leonard is also survived by his wife Patricia and her children, John (Cindy) Robbinson and Robin (Randy) Streninger.
As he requested, no service will be held. We ask that you find time to spend with your loved ones. Memorial donations to the organization of your choice are suggested. Just remember to "spend your money wisely."
Much appreciation is due to the caregivers at The Brennity at Melbourne Senior Living, FL.
