Leroy Post Obituary

Eagle River resident LeRoy "Lee" Post, 82, died July 20, 2010, from complications of Parkinson's disease.

A visitation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River. A funeral Mass will be at 7 p.m.

The youngest of 10 children, Lee was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Mt. Horeb, Wis., to Eugene and Bertha (Bowar) Post.

He served in the Merchant Marines in the Mediterranean from 1944 to 1945, then earned a bachelor's degree in soils science from the University of Wisconsin. Upon returning from Korea, where he served as a member of the United States Military Advisor Group to the Republic of Korea for the Army, he earned a Doctor of Law degree.

After two years with Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle, where he met his future wife, Barbara, he was hired by Chevron Oil Co. In 1964, he moved to Anchorage, where he lived with his young family until late 1971, when he transferred to the San Francisco office. He returned to Alaska in 1985 and retired from Chevron in 1986. He had lived in Eagle River since 1985

Lee's Catholic faith was the center of his life with his wife Barbara, sons Doug and Dave and grandsons Nick and Ben. He attended daily Mass for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to fish and hunt, and spent many happy hours fishing on the Little Su, hunting in the Juneau Lake area, smoking salmon and making homemade sausage. He had a great sense of humor, was an avid reader and enjoyed Western movies and watching his grandsons play.

Lee is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Doug Post of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Dave Post and Lee's grandsons, Nick and Ben Post, all of Anchorage; brother, Ed; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Delores Post, and sisters-in-law, Fern, Pauline, Georgia and Geraldine Post, all of Mt. Horeb; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his bothers, Walter, Eugene, Frencis, Art and Jerry Post; sisters and brother-in-law, Sally and Milt Swingen and Loretta and George Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Wanda Post.

Memorial bequests can be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel; www.janssenfuneralhomes.com.

Barbara and family-

I , too, am sorry to have lost contact with you -- We had some good times with the Elkins and others a few years ago -- I lost Eric in 2000 and retired from teaching in 2002 -- have been traveling ever since with friends. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

Barbara, I'm sorry to have "lost" contact with you & Lee over the years.
Have been living in Choudrant, Louisiana, near lots of relatives since
Reggie's death in 2003. I read the Anchorage Daily News online and saw Lee's obit. He and Reggie had some really good times fishing.
The Scripture that helps me is the promise in Isaiah 41:10.
