Mark Yost Obituary

On the 26th of January, our friend Mark Roger Yost lost his fight with heart disease from complications associated with his third major operation.

Mark was born March 30, 1957 in Grand Rapids, MN. He was 54.

He came to Alaska in the early 80's seeking work and finding it at Chilkoots, the Crazy Horse and the Buckaroo through the years.

Mark was a great cook who enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with his fellow employees. More importantly, he was a great guy who told it like it was, never letting thoughts slip from his mind, good or bad. We wish him God speed.

We miss him and mourn his passing, but take joy in his friendship and the time we spent with him.

There will be a celebration of life at the Buckaroo on Saturday February 4 at 4 p.m. It is potluck so bring something if you are so inclined.

Also, the Crazy Horse will be having a potluck wake for Mark on Monday, February 6 at 5 p.m.

I am Mark's cousin, Dave, born in Grand Rapids, MN too and lived in Fairbanks, AK from 1959-1984. I only met him a couple of times when we were very young. I knew his Dad, my Uncle Chuck, better. Mark sounded like a great guy. I and many of my friends spent a few hours and some $$$ at Chillcoot Charlie's but it was in the 70's. I'm very sorry for his passing and feel especially bad for his family and friends.

I'm going to miss Mark coming home to
Grand Rapids Mn to fish with his dad &
vacation. He was a hell of a cook!!
Less than 6 months ago, Mark and I
lowered his mothers ashes into the ground; this spring I will have the honor to do the same for Mark; at the
foot of our (Kathy&Mike's) grave plot
at his mothers feet. where he wanted to be.
A black granite stone; with a picture of a walleye and a Harley Davidson
emblem will set above Mark R. Yost's
resting place. Bless you friend!

In the high school years Mark was never a Vikings fan. I remember watching the super bowl. The one the Viking lost to the Raiders. Mark hosted the party at his mom's in Mountain Iron; He was the only one cheering for the Raiders. His friends to many to remember were there. The Gills, Chuck, the Ell's and his little sisters Brenda and Lori, sat around the TV.
I those years we did everything together. Mark played the cornet in Band, I played the trombone. He was a great swimmer; Mountain Iron did not have a swim team. We would swim at great lengths in all the mine pits around Mt.Iron, Mott, PI, and Pernnu. We took a few trips to California. Iron Rangers on the road is a scary thought. Mark was always so full of life; he made you excited about life too, it just being around him. Mark painted a few years with me and my dad Orlando. He loved when Friday rolled around and having some jingle in your pocket
Mark was a generous man.
I remember in 11th, grade, at a football, homecoming game, Mark made a game saving tackle. His picture was in the paper the next day. He was the hero at the bon fire that night. He elevated our gang. This was my friend my brother. Love you Mark. My prayers go out to your family friends. and your love

I will always love and miss you Mark! Especially your dry and sometimes very unexpected sense of humor. You made me laugh every time you told a tale and, my friend, you could really spin a yarn! While I wish I had written some of your stories down, I am grateful there are so many who loved you too. I just know there will be "Mark" stories for years to come keeping you alive in everyones heart! Rest peacefully dear friend...XOXOX

Good Bye

You being gone will leave a void in many people, myself included. There will never be another you, although it always amused me to see so many try. You were at your best when no one was looking, like how amazing you were should be a closely guarded secret. I will never stop missing you & would give my soul to hear you laugh right now. XO.
