Martha Petersen Obituary

Anchorage resident Martha Petersen, 80, died April 1, 2008, at Providence Alaska Medical Center from complications of pneumonia.
No service will take place at this time. A family gathering will be held later.
Martha was born May 15, 1927, in Vienna, Austria. There she met her late husband, Frank Bertsil Petersen, stationed overseas during World War II. They were married Jan. 17, 1953, in Vienna, where she gave birth to her first child.
Martha and her son moved to Anchorage in 1955. Here she gave birth to two daughters. Martha lived in Anchorage until her husband retired in 1981. They then moved to a home in Hope that they built themselves. She lived in Hope until her husband died. She returned to Anchorage in 1996 to live near her daughter.
Her family wrote: "Martha enjoyed many things, but most of all she enjoyed her family. She was also a marvelous cook. People for miles arround raved about her cooking.
"She is in a good place now. On Earth, she suffered from dementia and Parkinson's. She has now traveled on to be with her husband and too many other loved ones to list. Though she is in a good place, she will be deeply missed."
Martha is survived by her son, Robert W. Petersen and his wife Betty M. Petersen of Wasilla; daughter, Katherine L. Maloney-Shepherd and her husband John Shepherd of Rathdrum, Idaho; daughter, Clara M. Wheaton and her partner Anthony Zoltek of Anchorage; grandchildren, Frank B. Petersen, Shannon L. Maloney, Matthew K. Maloney, Parker C. Maloney, Logan B. Maloney and Conner J. Shepherd; and many great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bertsil Petersen; grandson, Robert W. Petersen Jr.; and many other loved ones.
