Melvin Dickson

Melvin Keiser Dickson, 82, died March 28, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
A visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday with a funeral afterward at noon at Shiloh Baptist Church, 855 E. 20th Ave., in Anchorage. Interment will follow the service at Anchorage Memorial Park. There will be a reception at the church after interment.
Melvin was born Dec. 8, 1926, to the union of Henry and Sarah Dickson in Monroe, La.
Melvin was united in holy matrimony with Louise Renay in the late 1940s in his hometown. They were blessed with four children.
He was employed with the Alaska Psychiatric Institute for many years and retired from the State of Alaska. In leisure, he enjoyed cooking, playing dominoes, entertaining his family and friends, riding and sightseeing. He always loved a good conversation along with listening and reading the word of God.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Henry Dickson; mother, Sarah Dickson; his loving wife, Louise Dickson; son, George; daughter, Maria; sister, Vera Fleming; brothers, Jessie and James; and brother-in-law, Tommie Fleming
He is survived by his daughter, Bessie Penny; son, Melvin (Carmen) Nikolai; and six grandchildren, LaTanya Penny, Nigel Ivory, and Maria, Dontia, Kendra and Nevaeha Nikolai. He also leaves his nieces, Thomie Garner, Sara Gilley, Joyce Davis, Susan Gardner, Sandra Fleming and Kathy Fleming; nephew, Jessie Fleming; and a host of loving relatives and friends who mourn his passing and cherish his memories.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the many acts of kindness and each gesture of sympathy and prayer on their behalf during this time of sorrow.
