Olga Daugherty Obituary

Olga Charlotte Harbough Daugherty died at her home, surrounded by her loving family and faithful Siamese cat, Morgen, on May 5, 2009. She was 97. She was born June 5, 1911, to Elmer and Mary Harbough in Windber, Pa. Olga graduated from Windber High School and from South Side School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she received her R.N. degree in June of 1934. She was one of the first airline stewardesses of TWA Airlines, and she later became chief stewardess. In her lifetime, she also worked as a nurse for Ford Motor Co. during World War II and at Mercy Hospital in Miami, Fla. She married the love of her life, Dr. Thomas Daugherty, on May 29, 1941. She was married at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a kind, giving and wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. Her life verse was Matthew 28:20, and she often quoted the 23rd Psalm. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Pamela and John Kleiss, Thomas Daugherty, and Robert and Kathleen Baker; her grandchildren, Matthew and Marina Baker, Jennifer and Michael Boothman, Jason Kleiss, Evan Kleiss, L.T. Daugherty, Christina Moore; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Natalie and Christian Boothman and Carson and Elliette Baker. Other survivors include Carol Ewing and Norman Harbaugh. Olga is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband and oldest daughter, Karen Elizabeth. A special thanks to the Rev. Betty Lou Anthony for her visits and spiritual influence. Also thanks to friends and family at ABT and ACS and to Hospice for their merciful care. Because Olga always valued missions, in lieu of flowers, please direct donations to ABT Camp Barnabas. A memorial service will be conducted by her son-in-law, Robert Baker. She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery surrounded by her family. Her family will rejoice as she is finally reunited with her beloved husband and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Arrangements are with Witzleben Legacy Funeral Home, www.alaskafuneralhomes.net.

May wonderful memories comfort you during this difficult time and that those special moments live in your minds and hearts, forever. When God's Kingdom come and His will is done on earth as it is in heaven, death will be no more. - Matthew 6: 9, 10
