Phillip Akins

1958 - 2017

Phil Akins, 59, passed away on May 4, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Eagle Pass, Texas, Phil spent time in Tucson, Ariz., before settling for most of his life in Anchorage, Alaska. Despite his relatively young age, Phil had been defying death most of his life with a series of hunting and boating shenanigans that should have taken him long ago and have left us with many great stories that will be told for generations. He loved his wife, Coleen, his family, fishing, hunting, beer, America, The Dallas Cowboys and the Second Amendment. Not necessarily in that order.
Phil has joined in death his mother, Phyllis; his sister, Nannette; his brother, Steven; and his beloved dogs, Cookie and Sitka.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Coleen; son, William (Manley) with wife, Laura; grandchildren, Liz and Patrick; father, Dave (Old Man); brother, Doug; nephews Chris, Weston and Gideon; as well as many others who loved and admired the man. He also left behind a seemingly never ending trove of great stories and memories.
Spreading of his ashes will take place on the Kenai Peninsula later this summer.
