RaJa Huss Obituary
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 8110 Jewel Lake Road. The Rev. Steven C. Moore will officiate. A reception will be from 6-10 p.m. at the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, 4721 Aircraft Drive.
RaJa was born Oct. 14, 1970, in Seoul, South Korea, and joined her adopted family in Kotzebue shortly after birth. The second in a family of six children, RaJa was raised in Kotzebue and graduated from Kotzebue High School in 1988. She went on to study fashion design at Brooks College before working in the oil field services industry.
Her boundless energy and love for meeting people led her to a career in the travel industry, most recently as a flight attendant for American Airlines.
RaJa loved the outdoors and spending many happy moments with friends in Alaska rafting, berry picking, biking and walking the Coastal Trail.
Her family said: "RaJa was a loving and caring sister and daughter for our family since birth. She brought order and sunshine into all of our lives. RaJa had the remarkable gift of making and nurturing friendships with hundreds of people all over the world during her travels. She had the gift of an encyclopedic memory for birthdays and anniversaries and each was remembered with a card or a phone call. Her sense of humor and laughter were contagious and helped brighten even the darkest moments. Her love and care of her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews made her a favorite to each and every one. We were blessed with her caring and bright personality for almost four decades. She will be dearly missed."
RaJa was preceded in death by her mother, Winifred L. Huss. RaJa is survived by her father, Charles Huss of Kotzebue and Anchorage; brothers, sisters and their spouses and children, Amber and Toby Drake, Micah and Judy Huss, Gabriel and Jennifer Huss, Cameron and Daniel Morris and Jordan Huss and beloved nieces and nephews, Callan, Teigan and Mairyn Drake, Ronnie, Austin, Rohyn, Gillian and Buchanan Huss, and Raegan, Ciernan and Caidan Morriss.

Not too many days go by that I don't reflect on the many wonderful memories I had during my time working during the summers in Kotzebue in the 1980's. You are included in those memories! You were a pesky little teenage girl with a big vocabulary, a sharp wit, endless dreams, and the most beautiful smile and personality. I was shocked when I heard that you had passed away... didn't make sense at all.
I had not read your obituary until today. I am comforted, although not suprised at all, to see how many lives you went on to touch later on in life! Albeit way too short, your's was a rewarding life lived to the benefit of those around you for sure... thank you RaJa!

I know RaJa has been gone for a while now, but I still think of her often. I went to high school with her for just 2 short years. She had a way about her that brought smiles to everyone. Of all gifts God bestows on us her gift was precious.
I wonder sometimes if maybe it was more important to her to bring sunshine and happiness to others than her own self. How very unselfish that is!
I know that the pain from losing a loved one never leaves those left behind, but I pray the family and friends of this bright shining soul take at least a small measure of comfort in the beautiful life she lead. She touched countless lives.
I will always think of RaJa whenever I hear a Duran Duran song and smile a little smile.

Words cannot express my thoughts and sadness of the passing of Raja. You know I cannot ever say enough about the great bunch of kids I had when I was Principal, I always felt you all were part of my family and kids. With Raja, what a bundle of energy and giggles that danced in her captivating eyes, I only hope that she, Mom, and Wynn will be one of the many loved ones there to greet me when I get there. Like too many who have gone too soon and missed a bunch, they are now safely in God's arms.

I didn't know Raja for that long, mostly just one long Kotzebue winter in high school, but she was a dear friend during that time. I'm deeply saddened that she's gone.

I just heard about the loss of one of Raja- After seeing Raja picture on ADN, I immediately remembered her smile when I met her in the Huss home in Kotzebue so many years ago-I heard our friend Janice Salesky speak of her often. Toby and Amber, I can't imagine what you and your family are going through right now. I'm deeply sorry for your loss, the Huss family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I had heard about Raja's service sooner, I would have been there for you.

I met Raja on our first day of training at American Airlines eight years ago. She was immediately a great friend. I would like to think we helped each other through the long days of training, but she is the one who helped see me through to graduation and on to flying together around the country. She was my rock to lean on through tough times in life. I am sad to have missed her services. She was such an incredible person who brought light and love into the lives of all she met. I am still in such shock to know that I will never again hear her infectious laugh or the famous "it's ok sweetie."

I would like to say, when Raja came down to visit here in Venice, CA. we would have a great time.
She always talked about her loving family. She would send me photos of her and her family through-out the years. Most I have never met before. But she was so proud of her Friends & family, nieces and nephews that she told me all about them and wanted me to be apart of them.

Over the years RaJa was a welcome sight in our home in Alaska, then Colorado, then Washington. We go back a long way and despite having lives in constant motion our paths always crossed. It was her, you know, always keeping track of those she loved and those who loved her. She was wonderful that way.

I first met Ra Ja in training at the American Airlines training center 8 years ago. I was so attracted to her the first time I saw her! I thought she was the most beautiful woman i had ever saw both inside and out. After graduation we flew together a couple of times but ended up going two different directions until recently.. She finally found her way back into my life at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) where I am currently based. Our eyes met again and we were just so happy to see each other and I really felt we were together again. I was in New York on a trip recently when I heard of her passing and my heart just shattered! I broke down and cried my eyes out. we had a emergency landing in St. Louis and the woman who met our flight knew of Ra Ja and knew EVERYTHING that happened and when i found out what happened i was even more crushed i ran off the plane and fell to the ground sobbing! i miss her and love her so much she always made my life better and happier! I now carry her name and picture on my ID badge to keep her close to my heart now and always! To her family I am so sorry for your loss she will always be sooooooo missed!

This young lady embodied a spirit of pure compassion and caring for everyone who crossed her path.

I have known Ra Ja since we were 16, when she was involved with student government and would travel to Anchorage. Ra Ja and I remained friends throughout the years, we worked for Alaska Petroleum Contractors together on the North Slope.

Little RaJa from next door would come over with her pail full of sunshine and spread sunbeams every where in the house. I can still see her sitting on the floor playing with the dog and laughing. One day we made golden cornmeal pancakes and we all enjoyed eating them. RaJa will continue to spread sunbeams as we all cherish her in our memories. First of all, my sincerest condolences and sympathy for the Huss family. Raja and I have been friends since we were little kids. She used to come over to my Aana’s house to visit and the first thing she would do was to say “Hello Mrs. Ward!” to my Aana. Aana used to say that she was “the prettiest Eskimo”, and we couldn’t convince her that Raja was really Korean, but it was okay. Raja and I once made mud pies in Easy Bake Oven pans and buried them in the middle of the road by her house. We talked about that every so often as we got older (even last year) and we both agreed that they are probably still there and had a good laugh. I always smile and think of Raja every time I pass there.

I was trying to get the ski up to the dock and she leapt on before I even had it ready! She was ready to go with a big smile and her laugh! I think she was one of the most sincerest nicest people to have graced this earth. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

I was a couple of years behind RaJa in school. I always knew her as the girl with the great smile and laugh. Her older sister used to babysit us, and we always had a great time! You'll be missed RaJa.

Raja was such a fun and exciting person to be around. I knew Raja from mutual friends- her caring, kind heart had a way of making you feel close to her even if you only seen her once a year. I enjoyed all the times I spent with Raja and will truly miss her! Rest in peace, love you!!

I am so very sad to hear of Raja's passing. My family lived next door to the Huss family in Kotzebue in the late 70's.... Raja was a wonderful, happy little girl and when I remember her from those days, she was always laughing. My condolences go out to her family. Sleep softly, Raja.

I cant say how sorry I am to your family. I knew Raja from Kotzebue but only really got to know her at Amber's. She always had a smile and loved spending time with Callan, Teigan, and Marin. She was such a wonderful sister and auntie. My heart goes out to you all and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
