Ray Dobyns Obituary

Ray Dobyns, 62, died Nov. 20, 2010, at home after being diagnosed with cancer.

A memorial is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Dimond Boulevard Gospel Hall, 900 W. Dimond Blvd.

He was born June 8, 1948, in Port Angeles, Wash.

Ray was a retired cook. He was more recently known as the "Lawnmower Dude" after his chosen retirement: mowing lawns in his neighborhood.

Ray especially loved barbecues and gatherings with his friends. He was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and also liked karaoke. He would often select Elvis' tunes to sing. He loved fishing, camping and playing Texas Hold 'em with his friends. He was also an avid sports fan and especially liked watching football and baseball.

He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Hemphill of Rathdrum, Idaho; two grandchildren; beloved companion and friend, Sandra Wierzbicki; and his treasured parakeet, Monkeybird.

Memorial donations can be made to Anchorage Hospice and Providence Alaska Medical Center.
