Ray Summerlin

Kasilof resident, Mr. Ray Summerlin, 79, died March 19, 2012 at his home in Kasilof, Alaska.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at The First Baptist Church in Soldotna. Dr. Ed Gregory, Pastor Doug Burrows and Rev. Fred Bennett will all be officiating.

Mr. Summerlin was born February 11, 1933 in Mount Olive, North Carolina. He received his auto and diesel mechanic degree from Nashville, Tennessee. Ray served in the Army in 1951 and fought in the Korean War. 2 years later he was honorable discharged. In May of 1977 Ray moved to Anchorage where until he moved in 2006. In 2006 he moved to Kasilof, Alaska where he lived up until the present. He worked in Illinois from 1955 to 1972, started AK Mobile Home Heating & Plumbing in 1982 to 2006. Ford Motors in Chicago, Heights Illinois, Holley Carburetor in Paris, TN, Locke Excavating Inc. in Anchorage, AK and Preferred Fabricators in Anchorage. He retired from the UAA in Anchorage most recently. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Soldotna and a little league umpire in Illinois. Ray loved watching baseball, playing Chinese checkers, and doing all the puzzles in the newspapers.

He is survived by his wife Thelma Summerlin, who he married on Feb 4, 1956; Children, Gary (Carol) Summerlin of Paris, TN, Jennifer (Darrell) Walls of Anchorage, AK and Greg (Alana) Summerlin of Anchorage, AK; Grandchildren, Dana (Kevin) Hensley of Madison, MS, Stephen (Roxanna) Walls of Portland, OR, Oliver (Janice) Walls, of Seattle, WA, Alicia Walls of Monroe, OR, Jonathan Walls-Spain, Brandon, Jordon Summerlin, Luke Honeck all of Anchorage, AK, and Theresa Triplett of Paris, TN; Great-grandchildren, Britney Triplett of Paris, TN, Nicholi , Zachary, Taylor, and Curtis Hensley of Madison ,MS, Kyler Walls of Monroe, OR, Dante and Roman Walls of Portland, OR; brothers, Ivey Summerlin (Katherine) of Seale, AL, Kennon Summerlin of Warsaw, NC, Donald (Marie) Summerlin of Seven Springs, NC, Rickey Summerlin, Steve(Brenda) Summerlin both from Kenansville, NC; sisters, Frankie Gilbert of McDonough, GA, Christine (Edgar) Gurley, and Nona Tippett (Clyde) Honeycutt-both from Clinton, NC.
