Robert Gallatin Obituary

Robert W. Gallatin died at Alaska Regional Hospital after a long battle with lung disease on July 19th, 2011.

A celebration of life will be held at his daughter's at 8360 E. Cottrell Campus Drive, Palmer, AK at 4:00 p.m. Saturday July 30th.

Robert was born April 2nd, 1942 on a boat in the middle of San Francisco Bay to Willis and Jane Gallatin. Bob was raised on a ranch just outside Cave Creek Arizona where he learned to "rope and ride horses". In high school Bob competed on the dive team with hopes of competing in the Olympics. In his early working career Bob worked as a jockey, T.V. technician, ranch hand, and small airplane pilot. Bob moved to California and became a metal artist creating metal sculptures located in some of the finest hotels in Las Vegas. The metal sculptures introduced Bob to new adventures in Alaska. He and his family moved to Alaska in 1975 and settled in Kenny Lake in the Copper River Basin. Bob and his family continued to create sculptures and other art for several years. After moving to Kenny Lake, Bob and several members of the community started a small newspaper that served the Copper River Basin called the Copper Valley Views for 11 years. Bob retired from the newspaper and moved to Anchorage to work for Arctic Office Products.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, having bar-b-cue's and other family get-togethers. His hobbies and interests were varied, ranging from horses, sailing, wood working, archery, guns, fly tying and cooking.

Bob voiced his appreciation for the care he received at Alaska Regional PCU unit and Providence pulmonary rehab.

Bob is survived by his wife Kerry Gallatin; ex-wives Cherime Mac Farlane and Lily Renike; brother, David Gallatin; sister Deborah Bloom; children Colleen Williams, Sean Gallatin, Heather Gallatin-Baker, Alex Gallatin, and Calista Landers; grandchildren Clarissa, Forrest, DaVon Grady, Darien Shaw, Dante Shaw, Taylor Gallatin,, and Bayliegh Gallatin; nephews Jesse, Jeremy Dozer; niece Sara; and four great-grandsons.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Willis and Jane Gallatin and grandson Matthew Gallatin-Bayless.
