Robert Hagedorn Obituary

Born on Oct. 24, 1978, Robert Blaine Hagedorn passed away on the early morning of May 8, 2018, nearly 10 months into his diagnosis of cancer. Blaine was very private about his diagnosis because he didn't want to burden others, nor did he want it to define him. It didn't, and it won't.
Blaine fiercely loved his family. He was a kind and gentle soul, loving and compassionate, had an open ear for all, was a loyal friend and loved Alaska. He was born here in Anchorage, and began a love of the outdoors and the magic Alaska offered at an early age. He hiked the entire Crow Pass Trail with his family at age 8, and his passion for the wild only grew. He loved fly fishing for rainbow trout, floating the Kenai and creating drone videos of his adventures. He put his characteristic enthusiasm into building a remote cabin with his family.
Cooking was an art to him, and his passion for wine manifested into his earned distinction as a sommelier. He worked in the food and beverage industry because of this keen interest in cooking, beginning at Gesine's as a waiter and then on to the Marriott as Food and Beverage Director, and finally to the Odom Corporation/Southern Glazer's, rising quickly to Gallo Brand Manager.
Blaine's upbeat personality, bright eyes, wide smile and punny jokes made him an absolute joy to be around. He shared many adventures with his community of good friends, especially his brother Ben. His daughter Eleanor Jane was a special joy to him and he was an involved and loving father that provided her with laughter and delight. He loved his Fischer dog, who was always at his side.
Blaine's legacy is now with his beloved wife, Brittany; daughter, Eleanor; mother, Sue Hagedorn of Colorado; father, Steve Hagedorn of Anchorage and his wife Marge Cabanski; brother, Ben and wife Callie of Anchorage; a loving network of extended family and friends; and his Fischer dog.
A special thanks to all those that helped Blaine along his journey, especially the Katmai Oncology Group, and the wonderful ongoing support from his employer, Odom Corporation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., with a short program beginning at 2:30 p.m., at the Kincaid Wax Bunker (right next to chalet), 9401 West Raspberry Road, Anchorage, AK 99502. All are warmly welcome.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to his daughter Eleanor's education fund, https://www.troweprice.com/usis/go-tuition-gift/alaska-529/531fa27e890b49be843f3653865bbfd6; or to fund colorectal cancer research at https://www.ccalliance.org.

Blaine mentored me years ago at the Marriott, I was his F&B manager for a summer. His teachings have stuck with me through my career and I know there was more to learn from him if I would have stayed in Alaska.
My real memory is the day we hiked to the top of a mountain 45 min outside of town. I am not sure it has a name or if anyone had ever made the hike; We stood atop the peak and drank the melting glacier water flowing down the mountain side feeling like kings. This day has always been one of my life's greatest days.
He will be missed.....

Dear Sue and the Hagedorn Family,
The loss of a son, husband, father, and brother is hard to bear. During these past months I have kept Blaine and the family in my daily prayers, along with hope for his successful treatment. I will continue to keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. He was a lucky man to be surrounded by such a loving family and such a caring medical team that worked with him for so long. May he be at peace, and may each of you find peace in your own way as time passes. With love, Deborah (in Longmont, CO)

You're surrounded by friends and strengthened by their love. Rest in peace Blaine.

Hagedorn Family,
It has been an honor and privilege to work with Blaine these past years. I remember when he first told me that he was having a baby girl, he lit up the room with his excitement. Everyone at SGWS and Odom share in sending our deepest sympathies and will continue to support you in any way we can.
