Roger John Ellsworth

1949 - 2017

Roger John Ellsworth died on Dec. 31, 2017, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
Roger, called Johnny by his family, was born on July 6, 1949, in Palmer, Alaska. He grew up in both Palmer and Anchorage and attended West Anchorage High School, where he met many lifelong friends. As a young adult, he was a skilled excavator and heavy equipment operator who worked with his father and brother at Ellsworth Excavating in Kennewick, Wash. He also worked at several Anchorage construction businesses, in addition to helping build the trans-Alaska pipeline in the mid-70s. Prior to his passing, he managed the Gamble Lodge apartment complex for over a decade.
Roger was a social person: jovial and friendly, with a great sense of humor. He was kind to everyone he met and was loved immensely by his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and took every opportunity to share their photos and achievements.
Riding his treasured Harley Davidson motorcycle, watching mixed martial arts, and visiting with his family and friends were his favorite pastimes.
He will be greatly missed.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Roger Ellsworth; mother, Donna Hobson; brother, Kenneth Ellsworth; and niece, Elizabeth Freeman.
He is survived by his stepfather, Bob Hobson; stepmother, Mary Bullard; daughter, Regina Hall; granddaughter, Darian Hall; grandson, Elijah Hall; sister, Linda Freeman; half siblings, Wade, Norine and Steven Ellsworth; nephew, Ken Freeman; and nieces, Nicole and Amy Ellsworth.
A gravesite memorial will be held in June at the downtown Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
