Thomas Munson Jr.

1950 - 2017

Tom Munson Jr. "Sonny" passed away on January 1st 2017. He was born in Chignik AK on June 12, 1950 to Thomas and Anne Munson. He grew up commercial fishing with his family. After high school he entered the Army and served in the Vietnam War. After returning to Alaska he began working on the Trans Alaska Pipeline and worked as a Teamster truck driver, then later as an insulator. His love for the ocean brought him back to Chignik to fish with his dad and later as a fish tender on the F/V Interceptor. He enjoyed everything about fishing and became a master at catching and preparing salmon for smoking, canning, freezing and providing family with his catch. He was also an excellent cook. He loved camping, sports, fishing, and treasured time with family and friends on the Kenai Peninsula.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Anne; sister Jean Ann, and brother Harold "Apple".

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Munson, daughter and son in law Tanya and Karl Solberg, granddaughter Caleigha Salazar and her children, Jerriel and Janelis; sister Joni Munson and her children Jason, Brendon and Bodean. Aunts, Esther Ronne and Lois Munson. Niece and nephew Christopher Ondola and Karina Munson. Sisters in law and brothers in law Joanne and Chris Kleintjes, Katrina and Tim Traut-Savino, and their children, Matthew, Katie, Jessica, and Lori. Valerie Rolli and her children Christina and DeAnna. Stephanie Klingele and her children Lauren and Tony, Conrad and Celina Traut and their children Hailey, Nathan and Alyssa and many more cousins and great friends

Services will be held at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage on Saturday, January 14th with a Visitation to begin at 1:00pm and a service to follow at 2:00pm.
