Victoria Kelly Obituary

Vicky Ann (Turner) Kelly passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones on July 7, 2017, after a 23 year courageous battle with ovarian and cervical cancer at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born in Hawthorne, Calif., to Jamie and Mary Turner.
Vicky graduated from Dimond High School in 1974. During her working career she held the following positions; sales rep at Anita's Dress Shop, telegraph messenger for Alascom, school bus driver for the Anchorage School District and being a stay-at-home mom while providing daycare for friends allowed her to develop an expansive volunteer work history in Anchorage. It was in her nature to selflessly lend a hand to the organizations she supported. In 2004, she began to work with TSA, in Anchorage, as a screener and quickly moved up to Lead Instructor to train incoming personnel. In December 2007, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to accept the Employee of The Year Award from TSA.
In 2008, Vicky retired from work and moved to Colorado, for sunnier climes. She and her husband lived there for eight years before returning to Anchorage, in 2016, to be close to family as her health declined.
Vicky had an amazing zest for life and touched everyone's heart that she met through her life travels. Her charismatic and energetic attitude was infectious, along with her laugh and oh so cheesy grin. She was passionate about her family and very proud of how she raised her children to be strong, productive members of our community. Vicky's artistry shined as an accomplished potter and was an active member of the Anchorage Clay Arts Guild. Vicky was quite the athlete, too. She regularly participated in the Gold Nugget Triathlon, as well as being an avid skier, bowler, dart player and softball Superstar. In her younger days she represented Alaska on three separate occasions for Softball Regionals. In the late '70s, she competed in the Fur Rondy Wrist Wrestling Championships and took 3rd Place one year. An additional claim to fame was winning the Beer Drinking contest at Anchorage's Octoberfest. Her family and friends knew her best as The Dancing Queen, Lover of Vegas Slots and the Best Salad Maker.
Vicky was preceded in death by her father, Jamie Turner; and younger brother, David Turner. She is survived by her husband, Tim Kelly; children, Faye Fraze with son-in-law Brian Fraze, Sean Kelly and Andrew Kelly; granddaughters, LilyAnn Kelly and soon to be born Gracie Victoria Fraze; mother, Mary Turner; brother, Jim Turner and his children, Joshua, Brandon and Jessica; and many more extended family members and close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 22, 2017, from noon to 4 p.m., at The 49th State Brewing Co. in the Barrel Room East. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to honor
Warrior Queen Vicky's valiant cancer battle by donating, in her name, to Let Every Woman Know - Alaska, to raise awareness for gynecological cancer: http://leteverywomanknow.org/.

My best friend, Laurie Anderson, introduced me to her neighbor, Vicky Turner, when I was 12. I was immediately drawn to her. I was shy and envious of her hilarious, smart, outgoing personality. Oh, the laughs we had! And a few years later seeing her smiling face pulling in to school in the infamous Green Gremin! Our lives went separate ways but I was lucky enough to spend an evening here and there with Vicky through the years. When we did there was no awkwardness. It was as if time had stood still. She was the same beautiful, hilarious, genuine girl I met when I was 12. And she was overjoyed telling me all about her wonderful husband and family, obviously the light of her life. To Tim, all of her family, and all who loved her, I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless.

Tim
Unfortunately I never had the chance to meet your wife, but for both of you to pick each other, Vicky had to be a blessed and wonderful woman. May God bless you and your family. RIP Vicky.

One of Ms. Vicky's gifts was her willingness to face what scared her. I recall her taking up acting through UAA; she said it was one of the scariest things she ever did. Yet, she prevailed and learned, sharing as only she could. Her sense of fun and adventure included traveling around the country to ride the wooden roller coasters. Both my arms are raised to Vicky's memory and her approach to life. Sending loving and comforting thoughts to family and her wide circle of friends. ~Devron (a Dimond alum and NFL survivor)
