Youssef Sarkis Jilwan

1922 - 2018

Youssef Sarkis Jilwan, 96, died on Sept. 22, 2018, at Providence Alaska Medical Center of natural causes. He was being treated for many ongoing illnesses that were worsening. He was going to be transitioning to hospice care, however, his strength did not allow his body to recover.
Youssef Jilwan was born on March 15, 1922, to his mother Malkeh and father Sarkis Jilwan in Lebanon. He married Jamileh in 1948 and they had five children. Youssef traveled to France and then to United States with the help of his wife Jamileh's sister, Nafla Michael. He lived the rest of his life in Anchorage, Alaska.
He is survived by his three sons, John, Assia and Emile; and his daughters, Souhayla Daher and Hoda Boughosn; and their children.
Youssef was preceded in death by his wife Jamileh, who died on July 29, 2010.
Youssef lived alone for many years until his health declined, requiring him to live in assistant living homes. He met Dave Goodworth who lived in the same building as himself and they shared the same passion of the game of backgammon. In time they became best friends and spent many years together sharing life experiences.
Because of Youssef's failing health, he could not do some of the things he wanted to. He wanted to return to his country Lebanon. He wanted to go to California to visit his family there. He was admitted to the hospital for a variety of ongoing illnesses that eventually took his life.
Youssef will be buried close to his wife Jamileh at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
Youssef's favorite sayings were: "Much not good - little very good," the other was "Make Adventure"! Youssef left a footprint here on the earth and a wonderful lasting imprint in our hearts and lives.
