Timothy Peterson Obituary

Timothy "Tim" John Peterson, age 69 of Lindstrom, MN., passed away suddenly on December 23, 2024. Tim was an avid outdoorsman and leaves behind many fond memories of fishing and hunting trips with loved ones, family and friends alike. A world history buff, he found great joy in hearing the stories of other people's lives and adventures, and will be greatly missed for his gentle presence and listening ear.

Tim was born March 16, 1955 in Cloquet, MN to Eugene and Marilyn Peterson. The third-born of seven children, he grew up with his beloved siblings on the family dairy farm in Tamarack, MN. He graduated from McGregor High School in 1973. A curious and life-long learner, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1977. Later that year, he volunteered for the Peace Corps in Guatemala, Central America, where he worked with their Department of Agriculture in a livestock development program.

Returning to the United States in 1980, Tim worked as a blacktopper for Bituminous Roadways, working summers to help pay for his law school studies. It was during this time that Tim met the love of his life, Jane, they got married in September of 1984, and he became step-father to Ashlyn Marie Granfors (Troy). While living with his wife in Minneapolis, he graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, MN. in 1986. Over the next three years, Tim and Jane had two children, Jacob Hiram Peterson and Rachel Jane Peterson. At this time, Tim started working at the law office of Barry Blomquist in North Branch, MN.

Responding to a calling for a quieter, simpler life in the country, they moved to Lindstrom, MN. in 1989, where Tim would later become actively involved in the Chisago Lakes community he adored, from coaching and reffing soccer, to teaching gun safety classes. He eventually opened his own law office in the early 1990's in downtown Lindstrom, where he was honored to serve his clients and the community for over three decades.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws Carroll and Phyllis Gunem of St. Croix Falls, WI. and Minneapolis, MN.; brother-in-law Bruce Johnson of Chisago City. He is survived by his wife; children; step-daughter; step-grandchildren Trevor and Mikayla; siblings Sue Johnson (Bruce), David Peterson (Marcia), Phil Peterson (Val), Cheryl Meld (Steve Frauenshuh), Marie Gibbons (Denny) and Mark Peterson; brother-in-law David Gunem; his cherished dog Luke; and many other extended family members and friends.

Tim will be especially remembered for his generosity, unassuming sense of humor and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. He had many hobbies, including working in his shop on various cars and handy projects over the years, reading, caring for and training farm and companion animals, and spending time in the great outdoors.

A celebration of life will be held at the Chisago Lakes Township City Hall building on Sunday, January 26th from 11:00AM to 3:00PM, with a memorial service starting at 11:00 AM.
