Barry Burke Obituary

Barry L. Burke, 78
Our sweet Barry has left his earthly home to his heavenly home on Sept. 18, 2013. He was born in Ottawa, Ill., on Aug. 20, 1935, to Merle and Helen Craig Burke. They have preceded him in death as well as a daughter Gay Lynn Maupin, of Alamogordo.
Barry is survived by wife, DeeAnn, a sister Betty (Dick Farwell), of Illinois; two daughters Lori (Jerry Tyree), Santa Teresa; and Karla Norman (Shane), of Ft. Worth; two step-sons Jemal and Mourad Haddad, of Alamogordo; son-in-law Kerry Maupin, of Alamogordo; seven grandchildren Melissa Laperuta (Vince), Ashtyn Catalino (Michael), James Maupin (Katy), Sara Tyree, Tawyna Tyree, Seth Norman and Kavan Norman; four great-grandchildren and three nephews.
Barry graduated from Colorado School of Mines in civil engineering in 1957 and had a fascination with the mining world. He would take jeep trips into Colorado and venture through the old mills and homesteads of the enduring miners of the late 1800s.
He was a First Lieutenant of the Corp of Engineers for the U.S. Army. He was honorable discharged in 1966.
Barry was owner of Burke Associates as a civil engineer and surveyor for over 30 years. He was responsible for doing business with many people. He was always known as an honest and honorably engineer.
Barry loved Jesus! He was a Gideon and his greatest joy was speaking in churches about the love of Christ in people lives and how they were changed.
Barry had many talents and passions including fly fishing, photography, soaring in gliders, sailing and, his most cherished, flying.
He and his wife, DeeAnn, spent three years in building an experimental airplane and they flew to many destinations until dementia made him hang up his headphones after years of flying.
Whatever Barry built or did, he did it with expertise and great thought. He truly was a man of many talents.
We will miss him so much and he will forever be in our hearts and memories; but he is healed and at home with his Savior Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, donate to Gideon of Alamogordo for Bibles.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Christ Community Church, in Alamogordo.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked for him at the Forest Service, he was one of my supervisors. He was a fine man, very fair, and very kind. I know he will be greatly missed, I wish all his family the sweet peace that comes with knowing their loved one is with Jesus. God Bless You All
