Margaret Ussery Obituary

Margaret Ussery, 81, of Alamogordo, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, in her home.
She is survived by her sisters Georgann Fox, of Dallas, and Mary Miller, of Waco, Texas; daughter Jodie Ussery; son Dan (Priscilla) Ussery; grandsons William "Sonny" (Jeanne) Garney, Aaron (Shanna) Ussery and Neil (Bobi Jo) LaSalle; granddaughters Priscilla (John) Murray and Whitney (Brian) Campbell; and five great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis K. Ussery, whom she married Sept. 7, 1947. She enjoyed raising her family in El Paso and worked as a receptionist at a local medical office. She and her husband later became interested in the sport of showing dogs and began a dog kennel business.
Prior to leaving El Paso, Margaret helped young adults in the court system find jobs to pay restitution. She and Lewis returned to her hometown of Cloudcroft, where they built a log home and became James Canyon Fire Department volunteers.
In 1992, they moved to Reno, Nev., to manage a large condominium complex. They returned to New Mexico 10 years later, living in Alamogordo until passing.
Family and friends admired Margaret's loving and giving nature and we especially appreciated her fantastic sense of humor. She will be missed by all.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Teresa Story and Alamogordo Hospice.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Grace Baptist Church. The memorial service will be led by Pastor Joe Bryant.

Dear Jody and Dan-
I was so very sad to learn of the loss of your precious mother. When someone you love dies, it leaves an empty spot in your hearts which could never be filled by any other person. What a wonderful gift we have from god in the gift of memories. When you close your eyes, you can see and remember your mother just as she was when she was happy and healthy. Soon, in a new world of god's making, all pain, suffering and sickness will be gone forever. Until then, I will keep you both in my thougts and prayers.

Jodie and Dan,

I know it has been a long time since we have seen each other; over forty years. I'm not sure how long it has been since I have seen your Mom and Dad. When they were last in Missouri they were just like I had always remembered them from days long gone by. Always pleasant, encouraging, and upbeat. When I have called them on their birthday (one call for both of them) they always made ME feel good by their being so gracious and so humble. I will miss them both very much. May God bless and comfort you and your families.
