Sylvester Branch

1954 - 2012

Sylvester Branch, 58, was placed in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Alamogordo. He was born July 1, 1954, in Clinton, Okla., to Jesse Lee and Edna Mae Branch Sr.
On Aug. 19, 1972, Sylvester Branch was united in holy matrimony to Candace Dawsey in Alamogordo. The marriage was blessed with one daughter, Nichole Branch, and one son, Sylvester John Branch Jr.
In June 1976, Sylvester Branch went to work for Dynalectron, New Tec, and now Trax, as a photo optical technician until his medical retirement Jan. 31, 2012. He was also the chief union steward for many years. His co-workers were so supportive and uplifting during his battle with carcinoid cancer.
Early in his life Sylvester Branch became a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Alamogordo. Sylvester Branch served as a thriving, selfless servant for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a deacon, usher president and maintenance person for his church. His church family was his love and support system throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Candace Branch, of the family home; one daughter, Nichole Branch, of Albuquerque; one son, Sylvester Branch Jr., of Albuquerque; four grandsons, Quavshaun Branch, Jacob Benally, Dolan Branch and Zarek Branch; two granddaughters, Monae Armendariz and Jaiden Branch; four godchildren, Ashanta Williams, Sirdonta Harper, Laniya Harper and Iyana Harper; three brothers, Lewis Branch and wife, Jean, of Alamogordo, Jerry Branch, of Alamogordo, and Jessie Branch Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Albuquerque; one sister, Linda Jackson, of Surprise, Ariz.; mother-in-law Irmogene Dawsey, of Alamogordo; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Edna and Jesse Branch Sr.; brother Clinton Adair; sister Doris Meyers; father-in-law Junious Dawsey and granddaughter Jordan Antoinae Branch.
Funeral services for Sylvester Branch will be officiated by the Rev. James E. Forney at Corinth Baptist Church, 400 Delaware Ave. in Alamogordo, on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
Pallbearers are brother Harvey Harris and deacons Jerome Holly, Chris Rollerson, Tommie Williams, Meron Wilson and Leonard Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are deacons Charlie Smith, Charles Adams, Johnny Smith and David Burton.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
