Larry Smallwood Obituary

Larry Lee Smallwood fell asleep in death on February 14, 2018. He was loyal to Jehovah until his last breath.

Larry was born on October 21, 1939 in Memphis, Texas to Corene and Elmer Smallwood. He was a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed by his faithful wife of 55 years and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His love for his father Jehovah and his personal relationship with his savior, Jesus, was the basis for the outstanding way he lived his life and the choices that he made in both his family life, as well as the contributions that he made to the community. He worked in newspaper/publishing as Marketing Director and later as Publisher for the Alice Echo News from 1967 to 1990, and was an Alice Chamber of Commerce Director; a member of Coastal Bend Regional Tourism Council; and a member of Alice Industrial Foundation.

He and Lanette later started a publication, of which he was Owner and Publisher from 1991 to 2006, called the South Texas Traveler's Magazine.

As an Elder in Jehovah's World-wide Brotherhood, Larry was a man who could be depended upon to give encouraging, sound, scriptural advice, and was known for his generosity, kindness and unflagging steadfastness.

Larry spent many, many hours teaching others about the hope held out in God's Word to anyone who would take time to listen. He knew that the love Jehovah showed in sending His son as a ransom was the only possibility to gain eternal life.

Treasured memories are left in the hearts of his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Lanette Smallwood of Alice; his daughters, Vicki Renee (Dan) Baker of Victoria, Ronda Marie Allen of San Antonio, and Sherri Turner Stone of Cisco, Texas; his sons, Gregory Todd (Dawn) Smallwood of Katy, Texas and Lawrence Paul (Tracy) Smallwood of Hutchinson, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Don (Chris) Smallwood of Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as one nephew and three nieces; and his beloved dogs, Paco and Honey.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 3484 Hwy 44 West in Alice. Memorial Talk will be given by Francis Fugle and Albert Flores will be the chairman.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to: Watchtower, Bible & Tract Society, Attention Accounting, 900 Red Mills Road, Wallkill, NY 12589-3223.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to The Drake House, from janitors to management; and to Nurses on Wheels for their exceptional care of our beloved.

Larry Smallwood, a man of Integrity.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas.
