Helen M. Anderson, 89, of Amarillo died Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Helen was born in Ashland, Kan., on March 9, 1929, to Virgil and Nellie Howell. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1947. Helen attended Kansas State University, joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and received a B.S. in Home Economics in 1951.

Helen married Don Anderson on April 7, 1950, in Ashland, Kan. With Don, she learned to play golf and enjoyed traveling. They raised three children and enjoyed spending time with and watching their grandchildren grow. Helen loved fine fabrics, sewing, well-made furniture, and gardening.

She was a member of the Methodist church, Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Panhandle Geological Society Women's Auxiliary, Geologist Wives Bridge Club, Amarillo Art Center Docents, Antique Club, and a couple's cooking club.

Survivors include daughter, Chris Jones and husband, Bennett, of Ft. Worth; son, Greg Anderson and wife, Connie, of Dallas; daughter Kim McCarty and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; granddaughter Taylor Jones of Austin; granddaughter Merrill Jones of Ft. Worth; grandson Nick Sandlin and wife, Alex, of Austin; a brother Vern Howell of Ashland, Kan.; a sister-in-law Olga Howell of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; her sister, Doris Patterson; and her brother, Don Howell.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to a Golden Retriever Rescue group of your choice or to a favorite charity.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, at the funeral home.
