Dear Family of Max Bailey,

I was saddened to hear of your loss and wanted to extend my condolences.

Max and I became friends on the tennis court and was a game we both loved a great deal. A few years following his permanent move to Deltona and group of fellow Ames tennis enthusiasts decided a tennis complex was needed on the Ames High site that would serve the school, Ames Parks and Recration as well as the citizenry of Ames. As a member of that committee I contacted Max for financial advice and support. Without hesitation he said if I thought it was a worthwhile venture to aide tennis he was in full support of it.

With the assistance of numerous donors the project became a reality in 1999. Max was recognized for his most generous donation at the dedication by having one of the eight courts named in honor of Max and Pauline.

This court complex is widely considered one of the finest tennis venues in Iowa. In fact, the 2008 girls state tennis championships will be held their May 29-31.

Again, my best wishes as you deal with the loss of Max.

Sincerely,

Len Thiede
