Joe Aaron McCorkel

Joe Aaron McCorkel, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 20, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Dixie and Melba McCorkel, Joe's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his loved ones. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Harrell McCorkel. Together, they shared many cherished memories. Joe is the beloved father of Kim Yeske (Gary), Keith McCorkel (Jill), Mike Harrell (Kim), and the late Kevin McCorkel. His role as a grandfather to Kodi, Tiffany, Heather, Eric, Mikayla, Gavin, Ava, Grayson, and Ariel, and as a great-grandfather to Kamryn, Rikki, Ethan, Emory, and Aurora was one he treasured deeply. He also leaves behind four siblings, Jake, Faye, Susie, and Karen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny. His memory will live on in the hearts of extended family and lifelong friends. Joe grew up in Jacksonville, where he attended Ribault High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. His early years were filled with fond memories and the forging of lifelong friendships. After high school, Joe honed his skills as a carpenter, a trade that not only provided for his family but also allowed him to leave a tangible legacy in the homes and hearts of those he served. Joe was an avid poker player. He had a sharp mind and a keen eye for the game, often bringing home tales of his triumphs at the table. His competitive spirit was always in good fun, and his sense of humor made every gathering a memorable one. Joe was a man who put his heart into everything he did, whether spending time with his children, teaching his grandchildren a new skill, or simply being there for a friend in need. His warm presence and generous spirit were felt by all who knew him. With love and remembrance, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at 304 Lake Village Blvd., Slidell, LA 70461. This special gathering will take place at the home of one of Joe's beloved sisters, where family and friends are invited to honor his memory and share stories of a life well lived.
