Oscar Carter Obituary

October 7, 1944 – June 9, 2025 Oscar Earl Carter, III, age 80, tragically passed away on June 9, 2025. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in New Orleans, St. Louis, Missouri, and Centerville, Illinois, Oscar dedicated his life to service, leadership, and community uplift. A graduate of the St. Augustine High School class of 1962, he earned an associate degree in Mortuary Science from the Commonwealth College in Houston, TX, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern University in New Orleans in 1975. He began his career as a licensed embalmer with Rhodes Funeral Home. He went on to lead The Dr. O.E. Carter, Jr. Memorial Rehabilitation Center, Inc., a nationally accredited opioid treatment center in New Orleans, for over 35 years. He also served as Vice President of Coastal Ford in Mobile, AL, and as founder of Carter Maintenance, Inc. He was currently a legislative aide to Louisiana State Senator Joe Bouie. Oscar, affectionately known as Bing, was a devoted father, a tireless advocate, and a proud member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver. His legacy of compassion and justice will live on through the many lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Oscar E. Carter, Jr., and Edna Lang Carter, and sister Anita Simone Carter. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Don Carter, Sr. (Melanie); his sisters, Donna Carter (Antonio), Kim Carter, and Adoria Doucette. The mother of his four children is Andrea Fleury Carter. His eight children, 17 grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. "Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23 Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church (Our Lady of Guadalupe International Shrine), 411 N. Rampart St., New Orleans. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Knights of Peter Claver #394, International Shrine of St. Jude’s, or St. Augustine High School.
