Preston Waldrop, Jr. Obituary

McDuffie County Preston Isaac Waldrop, Jr., 71, of Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on September 26, 2025, with his family by his side. Preston was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on July 20, 1954, to the late Preston Isaac Waldrop, Sr., and Eva Jean Cohoon Waldrop. He was an unwaveringly devoted husband, a loving father, and an outstanding Pops to his 8 grandchildren. His legacy of love for his family will live on. Being a Baptist by faith, his faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted follower of Christ, he was an active member of First Baptist Church - Thomson. He previously served as a Sunday School Teacher and Yokefellow at Parkway Baptist Church. Preston loved to share the warmth and love of his Savior with all he met. He loved Jesus and serving his Lord. As a loyal servant of God, he was pillar of strength and faithful to his family and those who knew him. He had a quiet yet powerful way of inspiring others, showing them the love of God through his actions and his words. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness and steadfast devotion. The memories of his laughter, his gentle spirit and his unwavering trust in God will be cherished by all who knew him. While his family and friends mourn his passing, they rejoice in the knowledge that he is now home, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant". Preston was owner of two Blimpie franchises, worked in sales and marketing for Vista Foods and Spring Valley Farms in the Poultry Industry, Security Officer at Fort Eisenhower Medical Center and after retirement worked for the Columbia County Transportation Department as a Bus Driver. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, reading and was an avid Alabama Football fan, "Roll Tide". He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judith "Judy" Townsend. Preston is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Craft Waldrop; his daughters, Kristen Thornton (Alan), Kimberly Harris (David) and Kayla Waldrop; and grandchildren, Christian Thornton, Reilly Thornton, Emma Thornton, Barrett Thornton, Jase Duncan, Easton Duncan, Peyton Harris, and Cole Harris and many other beloved family members and dear friends. His visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia. His Funeral Service, being officiated by Dr. David Lamber, will be held at First Baptist Church - Thomson, 253 Jackson Street, Thomson, Georgia on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with the interment following at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, 2235 Washington Road, Thomson, Georgia. Preston was a wonderful person to know. We shared the very same birthday and always got a kick out of that when we were at Anniston High School. Reading his obituary, I can see he had an exemplary life. Rest in peace.
