Barbara Morcom Obituary

Barbara L. Morcom

AGE: 70 • Neptune City

Barbara L. Morcom, 70, of Neptune City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, Maryland. Barbara was born in Jamaica, NY and was raised in Valley Stream, NY before moving to Neptune City in 1969. She graduated from Wagner University in 1964. Barbara worked as a microbiologist at Bellevue Medical Center, NYC before becoming a stay at home mom. As a member of the Shark River Beach and Yacht Club, she served on the scholarship committee and chaired the annual fluke tournament. Barbara was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Fire Company No. 1, Neptune City. Barbara loved to ski, even more so after meeting her husband Terry on the slopes. She had a passion for traveling with Terry, her family, and her friends. She found pleasure in gardening, especially her roses. Barbara was a veracious reader and enjoyed a good book on the beach. It seems that she knew almost everything including to always order dessert first. Most of all her family was her life.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Terry. She is survived by her children, Kim Burke and her husband, James of La Plata, MD, Andrea Bast and her husband, Andrew of New York City, and Craig Morcom and his wife, Julia of Avon; five adoring grandchildren, Samantha Marie Burke, Brendan McAndrew Burke, Abby Michelle Burke, Anderson Morcom Burke, and Arman Henry Bast; her sister, Greta Holbrook and her husband, John; nephews, Jack and James; and many treasured friends.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will be private. For those who desire, contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, 3300 Route 66, Neptune, NJ 07735. Hey, Barb - I'd know those eyebrows anywhere! They, & your obvious joy for life hasn't changed in 52 years. We played on high school teams together & laughed much together, too. I see that you went on to build quite a family team who, I am sure, will miss you terribly. Peace.
