Brian Quinn Obituary

Brian Edward Quinn

AGE: 21 • Matawan

Brian Edward Quinn, 21, died suddenly Saturday, April 7, 2012 at home. Brian was born in Seoul, Korea on June 13, 1990 and came home to his loving parents Bruce and Susan Quinn on January 7, 1991. He was a joy to them throughout his life.

Brian is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Eleanor Van Orden Quinn and James Edward Quinn and his uncle Bruce Goldner. He is survived by his parents, maternal loving grandparents Grace and Jeremiah Hourihan of Matawan, and by Pat and Bob Harvey of Easton PA, his sister Lisa Quinn Stetler and her husband Thomas of Wilmington, NC, his maternal aunt and uncle (godparents) Kathleen and Jerry Hourihan of Matawan, his paternal aunts Margaret Quinn Goldner of Bordentown and Kathleen Quinn Shuman and her husband Roy of Forks Township PA, his nephew and niece David and Olivia Stetler, and his cousins Meghan Hourihan Kennedy of Matawan and her children Sydney and Christian, Jeremiah Hourihan III of Union Beach and his wife Jenn and children Jarrett and Kylie, Timothy Goldner of Bordentown, and Kristopher Dumschat of Forks Township PA. He is also survived by his Aunt Barbara Cholewa and her daughter Lisa Cholewa, and the Retro Fitness of Matawan family.

Brian leaves behind many special friends and relatives: Ann and Jack Valler of Aberdeen; Beverly and Thomas West of Spring Lake and their children Morgan, Justin, and Brendan; his Retro Fitness colleagues and friends, and his teammates, and his close friends, Gina, George, Danielle, Kevin, Tim, Matt, Jason, Joe, Michael, David, Adam, Sean, Trevor, Ryan, Luis and many, many more.

Brian was a senior at Kean University, majoring in criminal justice. He would have completed his studies in December and graduated in January 2013. His aspiration was to become a New Jersey State Trooper. He was considering professional umpiring as well. Brian worked at and worked out at Retro Fitness of Matawan. He had competed in power lifting events and hoped to compete in body building competitions. He umpired both youth and adult baseball in the area. Brian graduated with the Class of 2008 at Matawan Regional High School where he participated in football, bowling, baseball and on the DECA team. Brian loved baseball and his involvement with his coaches and teammates. An avid fan of the Seattle Mariners, and in particular Ichiro Suzuki, led him on a family trip to Seattle in July 2006 which will always be remembered.

Brian was a treasure to his family. He was a communicant of St Clement's Church, Matawan where he received the sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Holy Communion and Confirmation. He was a loving and happy young man and was living a full adult life where he enjoyed many friendships. Brian will live on in all of us and others, both spiritually and physically. Brian will be an organ donor as part of the Sharing Network. For those interested, donations may be made in his name to the MRHS baseball team (Coach Kaye, Matawan Regional High School, Atlantic Avenue, Aberdeen) and will be appreciated - for the love of the game!

Funeral arrangements are through the Waitt Funeral Home, Route 79, Morganville, with a public viewing on Wednesday, April 11 from 4.p.m. to 9 p.m. and friends and relatives may also visit the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. before the mass of Christian Burial at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church on Freneau Avenue (Rt. 79), Matawan, at 11 a.m. on Thursday. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to have coached Brian over the years at Matawan. He was a young man that respected and cared for his coaches, played the game with passion and was revered by his teammates. His smile was infectious while his bat was thunderous. Barely a day goes by that I don't speak of Brian and the 2008 Husky Baseball team. All we can think is that Gods team is in a big spot and needs a great hitter and I'm sure, as always Brian will give his all. God bless the Family and all of Brian's loved ones. May we find the strength from God to be strong. Coach Kaye
