Concetta "Connie" Orechio

Concetta "Connie" Orechio, age 96 of Shrewsbury Twp., died on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Born in Amaroni, Calabria Italy, she was the second of nine children born to Gregorio and Barbara Muzzi Scalzo. She had lived in Rumson and Long Branch before moving to Shrewsbury Twp. Connie was a factory worker for many years in the garment industry. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach and a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Deborah Foundation, and San Alfonso Women's Auxiliary.

Connie was predeceased by her husband, John Orechio in 1985; her brothers, William Scalzo, Anthony Scalzo, Samuel Scalzo and Frank "Fifi" Scalzo, and her sisters, Cecelia DeSantis and Mary Calabretta. Surviving are her two sons, John Orechio of Woodbine and Kenneth Orechio of Shrewsbury Twp., with whom she lived; her daughter, Joanne Pew and her husband Jay of Burlington Twp.; a brother, James Scalzo and his wife Evelyn of Rumson; her sister Barbara Boccellato and her husband William of River Plaza; two grandchildren, Stephanie O'Neill and Eric Pew, and a great grandson, Alastair O'Neill.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. Funeral Wednesday, 8:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass at 10 am at Precious Blood Church. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
