David Vactor Obituary

David W. Vactor

South Bound Brook - "Not every rich man is a good father, but every good father is a rich man." David Willis Vactor, 60, of South Bound Brook, NJ, passed away on November 14, 2020.

David was born on January 22, 1960, in Plainfield, NJ, to William Sr. and Lucille Vactor. He attended North Plainfield High School where he played baseball and basketball, and he never missed a Thanksgiving day NPHS football game. David grew up in North Plainfield and moved to South Bound Brook in 1989 where he lived out the rest of his life with his wife and kids. David met his wife at Jersey Chain and Metal in Hillsborough, NJ, where he got started in the marine and rigging hardware industry. He spent many years employed as a wire rope and chain assemblies salesman for Atlantic Cordage Corporation in Avenel, NJ, and then later on for Brown and Perkins Inc. in Cranbury, NJ. He was good at his job and formed many special relationships over the years with his coworkers and customers, especially.

Among David's greatest loves were his daughters; sports; good food and good people; he especially enjoyed hanging out with his girls and his best friends, Pat and Rad. He loved spending time with his sister, Debbie. To say David was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and NY Yankees fan would be an understatement. He enjoyed sports so much that he coached girls' basketball teams at Holy Family Academy in Bound Brook, NJ, for many years, and even formed his own softball team, "Vic's Kahunas." David loved the holidays and made them special for everyone.

While David's life would seem too short to many, those who were touched by him understood that the quality of his existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which he lived. He was a simple man with lots of love to give. He was always, always thinking about others. He was very hardworking, easygoing, funny, and kind. He will be terribly missed by his family and friends, and all those who were lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alice Vactor; his sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and David Cohen; and his three daughters, Jennifer Hayden, Ashley Vactor, and Nicole Vactor.

Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home in Somerville, NJ. A small service will be held for the family on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 10am at the funeral home, followed by his burial at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

In memory of David, please raise a glass of your choice to life, family, and friends. To honor David's memory, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. I remember Dave as a pitcher on the high school team. I played with him in 1976, he was in 10th grade and I was in 12th. We called him Rookie. Dave was a great guy.
