Doris H. Sylvester

Spring Lake - Doris H. Sylvester, 94, of Spring Lake, passed away on January 23 at her home. She was born on March 30, 1924 and was raised in Belmar. She graduated from Manasquan High School in 1942.

Doris worked for the Asbury Park Board of Education and The Multiple Listing Agency of Central Jersey before concentrating on raising her family. Doris moved to Spring Lake into the home she and her husband built in 1951.

Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Chief John Martin Sylvester Sr. of the Spring Lake Police Department, her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Heyniger, her 4 brothers, Earl, Arthur, Charles and Louis Heyniger and sister, Olga Heyniger. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, John Martin Sylvester Jr and his wife Doreen of Berkley Heights and Stephen Mark Sylvester and his wife Patricia of Hamilton, her grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Kristin (Sylvester) Doran, Alexis Sylvester, Kelsey Sylvester, and Christopher and Chrissy Sylvester and her great grandchildren, Michael and Emily Doran and Eliana Sylvester. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Doris enjoyed her summer days at the North End with a group of ladies including special friends Bernice Farr (deceased) and Mary Huelitt. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling with friends to points of interest throughout the country. Doris later became an avid reader and also watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, always cheering on the female contestants!

Funeral service will be held privately under the direction of the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street , Belmar, NJ.
