Edgar Geiger Obituary

Edgar C. Geiger, Jr.

AGE: 86 • Tinton Falls

Edgar C. Geiger, Jr., 86, Tinton Falls, died unexpectedly December 25, 2014, at home. He was born in Newark, NJ on August 24, 1928. He resided in Roselle Park and Roselle, NJ until he married Audrey L. Burke in 1955, also from Roselle Park. Shortly after which, they became residents of Monmouth County with their four children; living mostly in Elberon, but also in Shark River Island, Manasquan and Tinton Falls. After military service in the US Army, Ed achieved his B.S. at Seton Hall University. He also graduated from Seton Hall Prep School in South Orange, NJ where he became a member of the "12" Club. He devoted his entire professional career to Investment Management, fifteen years at Lionel D. Edie & Co., an investment counsel firm in New York City and twenty years at Merrill Lynch, where he was a Senior Vice-President until his retirement in 1993. In post retirement, Ed served on the Board of Directors of ABCO Corp., in Phoenix, Arizona. Ed was a parishioner of St. Michael's Parish, West End, NJ where he served many years as an usher. More recently, he attended Holy Innocents Church, Neptune, NJ. Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing golf, horse racing and fishing. The greatest gift he gave was his ability to selflessly offer guidance, logic and wisdom.

Ed is predeceased by his wife Audrey and sons Edgar C. Geiger, III and John J. Geiger. He is survived by his son Brian D. Geiger and wife Shawn, West Long Branch; daughter Lisa A. Emmons and husband James, Neptune City; daughters-in-law Mary E. Geiger, Ocean Township; and Janice Geiger, North Brunswick; grandchildren John Jr. and his wife Katie, Catherine and her husband Kevin, Sara, Justin and Audrey-Kate; step-grandchildren David and his wife Jennifer, Bill and his wife Kate and Jeffrey; and three step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Lois Gaffney and her husband William, his brothers Robert and his wife Dorothy and Thomas and his wife Helen; his brother-in-law Donald Burke and his wife Pat; and many nieces and nephews. Ed will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Lisa, Brian and Family: We are so sorry about the passing of your dad. We will always keep him in our hearts and prayers. We will always remember his beautiful smile, laugh, fond stories, and the kindest of hearts. The days of the Monmouth Track Reunions will always be fondly remembered. His and Ned's tip sheets, "who had the better picks", will be memories that will always be cherished. Heaven has another angel now, and I hope that my Dad and your Dad will be always smiling upon all of us. God bless you all in this time and know your Dad will always be in our hearts........Love, Lori, Adam Jr. and Zach Geiger

Lisa and Brian....I don't even know what to say except that I loved your father. To so many of us, he was not just "Mr.Geiger" but a true friend, just one of the guys. I spent so much time at your house over the years that I always teased your father that he should have claimed me as a dependent on his taxes.
He was such a wise man and helped me so many times during tough parts of my life, from advising me as a started my career, keeping me strong as I went through my divorce and telling me to dump both the Jets and the Mets.Unfortunately, that was his one piece of advice that I wasn't smart enough to follow.
All of my love, thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family at this time.Men like your father don't come along very often. Thank you for sharing him with us all these years. He made us all better. Love Laurie and Steve
