Edna Bergen Cottrell, 85, of Keyport, passed away early Sunday morning, January 29, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Jersey Shore Medical Center after suffering a stroke. Edna was born and raised as a child in Newark, before moving to Union Beach as a teenager with her parents, the late Nicholas and Rose Mirro. A graduate of Keyport High School, Edna married the late Richard W. Bergen Jr., formerly a Mayor of Keyport, which is where she resided for the remainder of her life while raising their four children.

Edna was an amazing and beautiful woman who was loved deeply by her many friends and family, and all her who knew her. She spent many enjoyable years working and caring for children as the secretary to the then Principal of the Keyport Central School, and later had a successful career as a local real estate agent. Edna was also a communicant of Jesus the Lord Church in Keyport, where she volunteered to serve the needs of the less fortunate.

She was predeceased by her son, Richard W. Bergen, III, her daughter, Susan Rena Bergen, and also her beloved second husband, Jack "Ace" Cottrell, another well known resident of Keyport. Edna is survived by her loving son, Robert J. Bergen and his wife, Kelly, of Keyport, her adoring daughter, Laurie Medoro and her husband, Anthony, of Middletown, her five cherished grandchildren, Casey Bergen, Nicholas Bergen, Richard W. Bergen IV, Casimo Medoro, and Anthony Medoro, along with her sister-in-law, Patricia Whitney and several treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, February 1st from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM, and Thursday, February 2nd from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Hwy/Rt 35 N, Hazlet. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, February 2nd at 10 AM, Jesus the Lord Church, Keyport. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.
