Eileen V. Clasek, 97, died peacefully Thursday, May 13, 2010. Eileen was born Sept. 26, 1912 in Newark to the late Gertrude and John Riley. She lived in Newark, Maplewood and Elizabeth for many years before moving to Spring Lake 34 years ago. She was the wife of Joseph Clasek, who passed away in 1976. Eileen was a graduate of Saint Vincent Academy, Newark. She was the secretary of Sacred Heart High School in Elizabeth for many years. She was a member of the Third Order of Carmelites for 51 years, past president of the Mother's Club of St. Genevieve School and Benedictine Academy, both in Elizabeth. She was a daily communicant of St. Genevieve Church, Elizabeth, and more recently St. Catharine/St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake.
She was predeceased by her five siblings and their spouses. Surviving are her loving children, son, John Clasek of Spring Lake Heights; and daughter, Ellen Curran and her husband John Curran of Wall. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Caitlin Curran of Wall, Colin Curran of Rahway, and Bridget Curran of Hoboken. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews and friends, including longtime friend of 58 years, Peg Curran; as well as family friend, Virginia Murphy; and also her steadfast and compassionate caregiver, Miriam Chimakadze and her family.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 17 at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake, with committal to follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
