Felix Wisniewski

Sayreville - Former Sayreville Councilman Felix Wisniewski passed away at home on December 19, 2017. He was born Christmas Day 1924 two months after his own father had passed away. The youngest of 5 children of the late Felix and Wladislawa, nee Prusakowski, Wisniewski. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Yanotka and brothers Frank, Thomas and John. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cecelia Wisniewski, nee Pero, two sons, Felix and his wife Mary Beth, John and his wife Deborah and 5 grandchildren; Meghan, Emily, Sarah, Felix and Rachel.

He grew up on Perrine Avenue in the Melrose section of Sayreville. As a young man he obtained a part time job delivering groceries to the households in the Melrose section of Sayreville. Because many of his customers only spoke Polish, he learned to speak Polish fluently.

He attended Sayreville High School where he was a standout basketball player and attended University College in New Brunswick. He played drums in a band.

He was a hardworking man. He owned and operated Amboy Plaza Auto Radiator Repair in a building that he largely built by himself. At the same time he operated his own business he worked second shift at NL Industries. At NL Industries he worked as a millwright and became an official in the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Local 8-438. He worked there until a serious injury in an industrial accident required an early retirement.

He was a volunteer fireman with Melrose Hose Company No. 1 and became an Exempt Fireman. In his spare time he took the Dale Carnegie course and became an accomplished and entertaining public speaker.

He loved the outdoors and was a skilled hunter and fly fisherman. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children, many nieces and nephews and his grandchildren.

He was a Cub Master and Scout Master for Sacred Heart Troop 95. He was a Democratic Committeeman and later Sayreville Democratic Municipal Chairman. He served as a Councilman and Council President on the Sayreville Borough Council from 1972 until 1984.

Felix was an accomplished and gifted craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands. He made furniture for his family and enjoyed creating stained glass windows.

Funeral services will be held Friday 10:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by an 11am mass at Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Felix's name be made to Melrose Hose Company 253 Oak Street, South Amboy, N.J. 08879.
